@gfeldman to suspend around 14% solids in foundation formula it was 0.5% veegum HV and around 0.6 CMC.
-
I agree with Bob re the veegum HV and CMC, have used in most of the foundation make ups and similar products, never faced a problem and the thickening is uniform and consistent

Try your ground powder too and you will know where you stsnd re the particle size.

wow some piece of info.

Was HLB value taken into account, secondly with such a high amount of oil phase I suppose a mix of emulsifiers would be more effective.
-
@pvt its more like an emulsion rather than completely water based, the emulsion looks good with it but with so much water it would take time to rub-in completely. Try replacing a part of water with cyclomethicone so that the play time could be reduced. Add it after mixing all the ing at the end of process.

You can look into this product as well, have used it and found it quite versatile.

Selvol has different grades, Kuraray is there and think Du Pont has it too. Try them, I found Selvol very cooperative. You can put your request thru Innovadex, quite a site.

And whats the product?

@Bobz I think the best option for him/her is to use pearl pigments from BASF, Merck, Geotech, Engelhard (was taken over) and so on and so forth. Glycol stearate can completely be eliminated and especially since its an anhydrous product.
But I am still unaware what is the product. -
Why don’t you make a slurry of normal pearls in one of the oils of your formula and use it, lipsticks and lipglosses are anhydrous and richly pearlized.
Or (not sure about this one) use the glycol stearate with an emulsifier in your formula, btw what is the composition? Accordingly choose the emulsifier. -
South Africa I suppose

@Microformulation sure thing, I would bring the pH down and see how it performs when washed with hard water.
-
Thanks Perry and Bobz, is it ok if I use a buffer to achieve this pH??
-
@Microformulation The final pH is between 5-6 and guess I didn’t put myself clearly, the water used for rinsing off the hair after applying the conditioner is very hard. Am I right in slightly increasing the quantity of the active and adding a chelate?

oops my bad, didnt read properly. How about replacing alcohol partially with cyclomethicone, cutting down on alcohol may increase the milkiness and at the same time cyclomethicone would aid in increasing the milky appearance. Dont need to change a lot in this, if doesnt work out then try other better options. Cyclomethicone or any light ester wouldnt feel heavy at the same time. Recently I came across Isoamyl Laurate and it had the lightest feel on skin. If I recollect from previous posts by Chemicalmatt he once mentioned c12-15 alkyl benzoate as one of the best emollient esters and at the same time a very good aid as a solubilizer. Correct me if i m totally wayward on this.

Maybe a related concept that you have mentioned.

Think they used Dermacryl 79 with an evaporating solvent to seal the oil coating of gloss.
