Getting desired pH in the middle of process would be a bit cumbersome.

I am sure other learned members can chip in too with a much better explanation. -
@Perry oops my bad, in my case I go for midway suggested by supplier. Then on I decide to go up or down.
-
Yeah it has to be post neutralization.

My 2 cents worth is that you always start lower and go gradually upwards depending on the outcome of the first trial’s efficacy/performance. So I suppose @Perry wants to highlight that here. And then there are product literature to refer to for minimum and maximum dosage level.
@Belassi That was absolutely a WOW suggestion that you chipped in. -
Sometimes the order of addition of PVP & Polquats to carbomer can make a difference. Are you adding before or after neutralization??
-
Polyvinyl Alcohol, I remember a product from Bayer but the cost and final result were both dampenets. And why would u replace PVA???
-
Did you think of AMP (Aminomethylpropanol)???
-
I am using Dissolvine GL38, which grade are you using???

MemberJuly 23, 2015 at 2:01 am in reply to: No salt Shampoo Cocoamidemea solubility issuesI am using Empipearl XA 200 & Empipearl XA 400 from Huntsman and no issues as such.

Great input @ Microformulation, though owing to cost restraints I use Carbomer 940 and it works great too with around 62% ethanol. Although had to add a little glycerol as plasticizer to avoid the balling of the polymer.

Here you go
Gum Blend 1501. 60-70%
Cyclopentasiloxane. 20-30%
Phenyl trimethicone. 2-5%
Oil Blend. 5%I suppose this should work, I have identical formula except that I don’t use blend. I use argan oil @ 5% and fragrance oil @ 0.3% level. Don’t forget to check the compatibility of your fragrance with silicone oils. And who suggested 20% phenyl trimethicone, just curious????
-
I have serum formulation with 5% Argan oiland the remaining is silicone oils and gum, have had no issues until now. Fragrance is there is well @ .3% level.

I use it and it’s a great addition to a formula if done properly.

@David Honestly thats a revelation for me as I never came across such kind of info that aeration is must for suspension. Still I would also try to dig out more on this as aeration is undesired in many clear products.
-
Thanks a ton @DavidW, I would try to find it locally and see if it fits the bill in terms of cost. But a wonderful suggestion and I would bother you if I can’t find locally.

Bulletin 7 — Flow and Suspension Properties - Lubrizol
Try reading above and you will be clear on viscosity and suspension. I can’t copy paste the link but google it.

I have been using pumice but its more of grey and I don’t see too much white as such. We were doing what @Bobzchemist suggested but discontinued as the other abrasive was polyethylene. Still looking for something similar and which can effectively replace PE.

Guess she talks about sodium salt which has good solubility but not salicylic acid really.
