Conjunto Lar is messy as Belassi says, very bad customer service. To be honest, even with all the problems you have to deal with, Cosmotienda has the best customer service. They will fix issues if needed. Also, double check multiple times that they have your proper address. They added a 0 to my address more than once and it was not delivered.
Chemico sells in 1kg presentations. They are reasonable. They also offer technical sheets very quickly.
I have an Ashland product coming in 22-23kg bags - Natrosol 250. I am using it to thicken some cleaning products. If that’s the product you are looking for let me know.

Have you ordered from Cosmotienda? Since the pandemic it has been constantly problematic. They have a good line up of products but some are poorly categorized. For example, they had hydrolyzed proteins in the fragrance sub -category.
Chemico.com.mx
They have many products Cosmotienda does not stock. But as you may know, dealing with these companies is very tiring since the website do not accurately portray what they have in stock or prices…ect.
They mainly carry food ingredients but they have many useful chemicals and I am sure they supply some of cosmotienda’s product line. You need to register with them with RFC as they will not sell to you otherwise.

What about using pure thymol and then adding a few EO’s as claim ingredients?

Everything in your formula should be by weight. So calculate what volume of alcohol you need and convert it to mass. Also, you are missing a base to neutralize your carbomer.

People want reusable containers and some idealists buy products based almost entirely on packaging. Plastic Free, Compostable, Recyclable… That is what lead me to tin but after a few conversations I understood that in my area, it rusts very quickly. Have you considered kraft/cardboard paper tubes/jars? That seems to be the trend, Sephora is full of these presentations.
-
We used it in solid compressed products. It is a miracle compound for tablet pressing. You would add it to impossible to compress API’s and watch the powder lose volume and get more dense as you blended the silicon dioxide. Not only does improve flow-ability of API, it also adds an element of cohesion to the mix. The product I was familiar with is Syloid 244.
And yes, it is terribly nauseous and dangerous to inhale.

David, I met a Chinese sales representative at a Mexican-Chinese Conference last year. He had some great looking samples and had done some work with some fairly large brands. Finally, I was advised not to use Tin containers because the high humidity here makes it rust very quickly.

Yes colloidal silicon dioxide will absorb oil fairly efficiently from my experience. My first test was to place some peppermint oil onto some Aerosil. I think I used something like 1g of Oil to 0.5g of Aerosil. It absorbed it fully and remained in solid state, powder was still “flowable”. I left it in an open beakers for weeks, even well past a month and the smell was just as strong as day 1 (IMO). Keep in mind that it was Summer months, and the room Temp could climb to 30-31C.

I have made similar formulations as tests a few times and it was not satisfactory at all. Leaves hands very dry, so I would definitely add emolients and humectants. The more inexpensive commercial handwashes available here are a mixture of SLES/CAPB, Salt and Polyquat 7.

You have not identified the exact blue color you are using.

Well, while doing much research on cleaning products which are recommended for use with COVID, I came across a few using Thymol as an active ingredient at around 0.23%. Not sure if it is permitted in mouthwash but perhaps this is the “red thyme” they are using. It might be worth looking into it. Look at the Thymox brand.

my main objective to distill is for the hydrosol, not the essential oils. from this perspective, would you consider distilling your own hydrosol?
If it is something you would enjoy doing, than yes by all means. For an economic benefit, absolutely not. It would take you quite an investment in money and time before it could potentially be commercially viable.
-
I have done countless steam distillations and your question depends on many factors. If you ask the question - Is it worth it? - the answer is probably no.
I enjoy the process but it is time consuming and requires significant experience to get it to a point where it is efficient and worth your time. I remember one of my first distillations was with some kind of bark and I netted around 12g of Oil by solvent extracting the distillate. Who knows how much time I spent? The setup was probably 2 hours, the distillation maybe 3hours, the extracting and waiting for separation in the separatory funnel, drying the extract, then removing the solvent under vacuum distillation…. a lot of time spent.
Many years later, I had the chance to work at a much large scale (70X higher) and it took me less amount of time because I refined my technique and my yield was much higher.
So to answer your question, it is highly dependent on scale, the investment in equipment and the experience of the operator.
Hydrosol doesnt require final isolation but it is still time consuming.
As far as quality, there is no reason why it would be not be as good commercial quality provide you understand the parameters and your starting raw material. You would also have to adopt a preservation system.

I am a big fan of the Chemglass line of stirring accessories.

So I knocked out the Cocamide DEA from this formulation:
2% Carbopol Aqua SF1
40% dH20
0.6 % Triethanolamine10 % Decyl Glucoside
15 % CAPB (30% active)2% Cocamide DEA0.20% EDTA 4 Na
2.0% Polyquat 7
0.12% BAC
0.10 % Fragrance (Lemon grass EO)
Trace color (unmeasured)Terrible idea. Milky and runny viscosity. Horrible hand feel.
Will try to lower cost by playing with CAPB and Decyl Glucoside concentrations.

Hi Belassi. I believe UPS in Mexico to be one of the most dishonest companies I have ever dealt with. I will never use UPS again. The drivers also like to pretend like they passed for delivery and will claim nobody was home. We have 24 hour security in the building, so there is ALWAYS someone available to accept any package. This happened to us 3 different times since some Amazon sellers use UPS.
We have a family friend here who is a customs broker and involved in the freight business and she is able to get packages out of customs. I also ordered a bath bomb press from Canada, and idiotically added a few colorants in the order. That was one hell of an experience. We told customs to remove the colorants and throw them in the trash since they it were not well listed according to them. They refused. Our seller than contacted DHL Canada so that they can inform DHL Mexico not to send the package back since an agent had claimed the address was incorrect. I was then sent a form where I had to identify each colorant by 7-8 different designations like CAS # which you think would be enough but no… I had to submit a drawing of the molecular structure of every color additive. LOL It wasn’t funny at the time believe me but somehow we got our pack after 2 weeks of stress.

Canada Post … lol It is incredible what they charge even within the country.

I have around a dozen or so different EOs from them. Excellent Lavender, never smelled a better one. Excellent peppermint, tea tree… They also have odd EOs you do not see that often. The natural Pear fragrance oil (not EO) was a huge disappointment, pretty much tossed it in the trash.
Anyway, they insisted on shipping UPS to Mexico, not sure if they will insist on the same for you. Either way, the customer service is outstanding.

I am also making a concentrated fruit and vegetable using decyl glucoside. I have to add it very slowly under mixing or it will gel up and settle at the bottom.
Why are you using glycerin in a food and veggie wash?
-
I used to routinely handle reagent grade Benzyl Alcohol, the kind Sigma, Acros etc would sell. It never smelled bad. The stuff from other suppliers when it would turn slightly yellow would have a much more disagreeable odor.
I can’t say which decomposition product makes Benzyl Alcohol smell bad but Benzaldehyde is for me the most repugnant odor even at 100-200 ppm. I worked for a chemical supplier who was an authorized JT Baker distributor. To this day, just smelling a chocolate or dessert with that artifical almond flavoring makes me dizzy.

BTMS-25 is a combination of cetearyl alcohol and behentrimonium methosulfate, 75% and 25% respectively. It is a great addition to a conditioner but very expensive. Cetrimonium chloride is inexpensive.
One thing I learned on this forum is that the primary function of fancy oils is to enhance a marketing story. I also went down the path you are going down.
-
They could be using as little as 2% of BTMS-25. Assuming it is at 2%, the amount of Cetearyl alcohol would be around 1.5% and BTMS would be at 0.5%. Cetrimonium Chloride is the main “detangler” here. It can work very well with as little as 0.3%.

I think what you have is more of an oil heavy leave in Conditioning mask. For conditioners which get rinsed off quiclky, Natrasil is a great addition instead of something like Olive Oil. It should have what you are looking for in terms of Natural, Ecocert etc. You really do not need that many oils or butters even for a leave in mask.

MemberJune 20, 2020 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Hygroscopic ranking of vegetal and mineral powderWetting agent is a term used in wet granulation. I used it interchangeability with binding agent but it is not correct. I am used to water/alcohol only as a wetting agent which is then dried and not so much a binder. Anyway, all this to say, it doesn’t matter 🙂
Aim for the following ~70% Surfactant mix (I use SCI/SCS/CAPB) and 4-6% total water.
I started out using SLSa but found that SCS cleans in a superior way (big surprise) I only use SLSa for facial washes now.
As far as emulsifiers, pick between BTMS or Polawax.
Again, you will be much better informed after you read the chapter I told you about.

My apologies, I posted an incomplete formulation.
In order of addition:
2% Carbopol Aqua SF1
40% dH20
0.6 % Triethanolamine10 % Decyl Glucoside
15 % CAPB (30% active)
2% Cocamide DEA0.20% EDTA 4 Na
2.0% Polyquat 7
0.12% BAC
0.10 % Fragrance (Lemon grass EO)
Trace color (unmeasured)Water to qs
I will try to remove Cocamide DEA, reduce Polyquat 7 and possibly reduce Decyl Glucoside (cost issue.) I have not monitored pH at this stage (laziness) but will start to do so as well,
