MemberDecember 9, 2016 at 4:31 pm in reply to: Best Impeller Type For Overhead Stirrer For Mixing CleansersAt $492 for a bit of bent metal on a rod, (R1300) I think I’d rather pay a local machine shop the same to make about 50 of them.

Are these silicone replacements easier to emulsify? I hate working with silicones in emulsions.

Ask Univar for formula UHh-050.

when I tried to put 15% of Polyvinyl is too tick and difficult to mix.
- This is precisely the reason why I did not continue with product development. The possible market demand did not justify investing in expensive mixing equipment to deal with highly viscous materials. Unless you can obtain a suitable mixer, I suggest this is not a good road to travel. -
Vitamin E is not a preservative and grapeseed extract is not a safe preservative.

It would be helpful if you would use the proper chemical names. From some research with Google I deduce that by “MCT oil” you mean capric/caprylic triglycerides, eg Myritol 318. (to help other forum members)
Sorry but your question is way outside my areas of interest. I can’t help. -
Squalane is supposed to be the most rapidly absorbed lipid. If rapid absorption is what you’re after, I’d use all squalane.
-
You’re entering a market with enormous competition. Don’t underestimate the marketing spend required to be even visible. I take it you have already acquired the brand name and dot.com domain?
-
I strongly advise you to test market first in order to see if there is any demand. We tried single-use masks in Mexico and so did another company and we both gave up on the idea. And these were easier to use than the design you reference (pouched fabric masks). We ended up giving them all away as freebies. Hundreds of them.

keeping in mind that using more lye than needed and removing glycerin with salt will ensure that there will not be unreacted lye or fat on the soap
- I’m not an expert but I would have thought that testing a given batch of oils for its sap index and then using the exact amount in hot process would be the best method. By mixing the paste with a filler and a suitable solid synthetic surfactant and forcing it through the extruder you could make a combined bar.Si, hablo Espanol, viviendo aqui por mas que 20 años.

Hola Luis, como has estado?
I can’t be a lot of help except:
First, I think you should try to recover glycerine because glycerin in the soap bar causes it to sweat in humid conditions. For the same reason I don’t think using CP soap entirely, is a good idea.
I understand there have been many commercially successful soaps that use a combination of natural soap (could be CP or HP) and synthetic surfactants. -
Use a better combination instead of the 5% hydrogenated polyisobutene. I’d include 1% Sensoft, increase the squalane by 2% to 4%, make the butters 0.66% each.

I just tried an experiment with one of my existing carbomer gel products, to see. I added 1% PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate. The (pre neutralised) gel did become slightly cloudy; on the limit of acceptability. I was able to make it transparent again by adding a small amount of propanediol.

MemberDecember 2, 2016 at 8:36 pm in reply to: Color fading in Hair oil and Rinse off productsIf you’re getting this kind of problem then your colours are a bit dodgy. I’d find a better source of approved colours. This kind of thing is quite common. In fact one of my early batches of shampoo changed colour very dramatically from purple to turquoise within seconds of the sun coming out.

It is unclear to me what your basic product is like. Still, have you tried, for instance, PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, Silsense DW-18?
-
Add 2-3% glycerine and 2-3% Glucam E-20 for lots of hydration.
-
Unless you tell us what you did so far, it is hard to make any suggestions.

MemberDecember 2, 2016 at 12:49 am in reply to: Why does my conditioner turn pink a couple of days after manufactureSorry, your comment about mixing made me laugh. That’s why encapsulated actives etc exist. No, you generally can’t alter fundamental effects by procedure changes. And anyway, in general that is bad practice because it almost guarantees scale-up problems.

MemberDecember 1, 2016 at 11:57 pm in reply to: Why does my conditioner turn pink a couple of days after manufacture- Citral, a component of some essential (citrus-based oils) and some fragrance oils, will react with Suttocide A and effect a color change in the formulation that can range from light pink to dark red.

the lime oil, for starters. -
8%? Are you sure? That is a very, very high amount. TTO is expensive apart from other considerations.

MemberDecember 1, 2016 at 5:08 pm in reply to: Maximum conc. of Mineral oil allowance in skin care productsIt turned out that she had assumed that castor oil was another name for Castrol oil (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castrol) and had used the latter in her formulation.
OMG. But I have seen a lot worse. On one of my Nigerian sites (a radio station) I discovered people draining oil out of a high voltage transformer to use as cooking oil. It was full of PCBs among other horrors. -
I don’t think it is a good analogy. And it doesn’t surprise me at all.
People are used to companies like Lush now. And used to the idea of buying something made from glycerine, mashed banana, oatmeal and strawberries. And so the consumer thinks: Hell, why not? I make smoothies all the time, right? Well isn’t Lush’s mixture just an external smoothie? I can do that!
So they do. Then the next minute they’re on Etsy selling unpreserved organic natural ‘personal care’ items. -
Not surprising. There are no oil-soluble licorice extracts, to my knowledge.
Licorice’s active ingredient is glycyrrhizic acid; this is almost insoluble in water, insoluble in oils, really it’s only soluble in ethanol. The potassium and ammonium salts are soluble in water but not oil. Frankly I can’t see a way to do what you originally asked to do. -
The point is, that you have given no idea where you are located, this is an international group. Not only that but you failed to say what type of materials you need.
