How much do you know about marketing? The first thing you need to do is go to the supermarket and check the same product category. The prices. Find a price point (make a list, choose one that’s one-third of the way up from the cheapest). Divide the price by five or six. Then sit down and see if you can make it for that.

It is only an antibiotic because of the strict ‘against life’ definition, as in, yeast is a form of life. You could say that alcohol is an antibiotic, iodine is an antibiotic, under the same definition. It has NO antibacterial action whatsoever. It is an antimycotic not an antibacterial.

I am interested in seeing if Natamycin is effective as an anti-dandruff agent.

It is a miracle it ever worked in the first place. You have one emulsifier, the glyceryl monostearate. And ten times as much lipids to emulsify. And no co-emulsifier. The only reason it could ever hold together is a) the xanthan gum and b) you might actually have a type of emulsion based on licorice IF your extract is better than 10% gla, which I very much doubt. If it comes as a liquid, forget it, useless.

^^^ I would also like to know the answer to that.

Don’t use natural extracts for colour. First, they radically increase the preservative requirement. Second, they are not stable!

The obvious thing to do is to find out what commercial products use.

Thank you! I will try that.
The shampoo I designed seems to help to a degree but not anything like enough.

Does anyone know if  there is any other Cosmos acceptable thickener beside xantan and guar gum?
Yes there are, but $$$. Are you intending to market the product? Do not lose sight of what competing products are selling for.

Here in Mexico they don’t even list the ingredients. A disgrace.

Yes. If the formula I suggested isn’t organic enough, first you will need to hire a chain saw and find some willows. Near water, they are, usually.

Secondly you have a glucoside in there. In my *opinion* Lamesoft PO65 may facilitate irritation caused by the glucoside.

So many issues here I do not know where to start.
OK here’s one: olive oil -> dandruff. BAD idea.

I did have a blood analysis done but it was for infections, also a skin lab analysis which just showed the usual. I am not very impressed with the vets here. The dog was fine until a year ago when I used a Harz shampoo on her that contained isothiazolinones. Later I discovered thousands of consumer complaints against that company. That preservative needs to be banned.

Thanks for all the information. Have tried diet already (I prepared a wholefood diet using brown rice, beans, carrot, green beans, apple…) - no effect at all.
Now begun supplementing with omega 3. I’ll see if I can get some of that oil you’re using. The vets here have little or no idea. The only thing that has been effective is Apoquel which is both expensive and has really worrying side effects.

Thanks. I don’t want to use steroids, due to the side effects. Already used antibiotics. I’ll try vitamin D. The shampoo is already very mild.

How do you see this formulation?
    — You will break out in hives due to the horrible preservative.

I can’t find it anywhere! Not even on Alibaba.com — my usual Chinese supplier doesn’t have it — can anyone recommend alternates in China? India? Korea?

Carbopol Ultrez-20 works well with aloe vera. Much better than 940.

They all have different purposes and abilities. Consult the manufacturer’s literature and review the sample formulations provided.
