Best guess is that fragrance and oil need to be pre-solubilized separately. Do things step wise so you can determine at what step the formula becomes cloudy and then we can better help fix it.
-
What color are you using? is it disappearing how ? some reds are notorious for fading away in light but I can’t say without knnowing what colorant you’re using.

Are you asking about fibers, as things like mascara fibers?
-
That’s a very open ended question. I’d /aim/ to break even but as I’m not Kylie Jenner, realistically I’ll be ready for a loss.

dodipharma said:Thank you everybody for your precious comments , I think we will exclude the idea of bath oil as it seems to be bad idea.
but I have one more question please, can we use the combination between vegetable oils and Paraffin as Hair oil and if yes is it better to be used as a hair serum or hair mask? And what is the most suitable ratio between the veg.oils and paraffin? Why though? Why use two types of oils? Oil is oil. If you want something that works and is stable, use mineral oil/parafin. If you want pretty claims, use teh vegetable oil. They have the same end effect essentially.

IF this is for North America, there’s quite a few lawsuits I’ve heard of when it comes to ‘bath oils’… that thing gets everything slippery. I’d avoid it, especially for baths.

What Mark linked you is the thread where all chemists have introduced themselves and there are some wonderful abs and chemists in UK for you to connect with locally.

MemberSeptember 10, 2019 at 6:06 pm in reply to: essential oils: citrus limon peel oil, citrus grapefruit peel oil and orange peel oilI have a bad experience with this combination and even the oils individually. From skin sensitivity and pigmentation to formula instability. I often advise clients against them unless they are willing to take the risk and insist on a specific claim or story.
I also believe they’re harmful to puppies. Don’t quote me on this but I vaguely recall a client testing some formula with the citrus oils and reporting adverse skin reactions from their canine where the owner had just ‘touched’ them.

Nathaniel, are you in Canada? I would look at used equipment companies if in Canada. Great selection, awesome prices and you don’t have to deal with exchange rates and what not.

Your formulation is about 70% oils so it’s surprising that it’s not drying. What is your bench mark? What is the list of ingredients your starting from?

Well, for starters, you have 113% of total ingredients in your formula.
-
That’s really weird because based on what you described I was thinking you have tons of wax in your formula. You don’t!
The theory about the ethanol fits to a small small degree but so small that if there was any wax produced it should be unnoticeable (0.25% is very tiny) as a sludge. Also, I think it’s more likely that you would notice the sludge in pre-mix B, not in the final tank. What I suggest, is to make a lab batch in the same order and with the same material you’re making in production. Find out what stage you have sludge forming and identify the culprit that way. -
@Belassi. I want to come live near you.
And on another totally unrelated note to cosmetic formulation, why don’t you juice them and freeze it? for later use? A small cup after a bad meal should really help with digestion!.On a cosmetic related note, I think it will be hard to use large amounts of anything grapefruit. I have used extracts and seed oils in minuscule amounts in formulations but nothing more a than a few drops. -

I have a trusted used lab equipment refurbisher friend that would find me the equipment, cleaned them and repaired them and sold them to me at cost. I only bought an IKA top mixer new. Here’s almost what I spent:Lab balance (or scale)- 3 for different weight ranges- $800 to $1500 eachMixers- 2 at $400 and $1200Temperature control devices (hot plate)- 2 at low cost (perhaps $150 or $200). They don’t stir or do anything fancy.Containers (beakers)- Got free combined when I bought the scale and pH meterTesting equipment- pH meter (can’t recall exactly, but low cost, perhaps below $300 with a fairly nice electrode) -

What is the formula you have tried? and other than silicones, why are you unsatisfied with it? -
For a hair pomade with tons of waxes one time the batch was about 15% short. We compensated by adding maybe 5% of water. In the lab and we were able to add back all of the 15% with some heating but as always, production is a different story.

But I have to say I’m looking forward to a day when I can plug a formula in a computer and it can at least predict stability and compatibility. -
Please include the formula. We have no information to speculate anything.

The fact that your oils float on the lotion has little to do with your solubilizer and a lot to do with your emulsifier and overall lotion formula.
And you need preservatives. -

I have been racking my brains about where I’ve heard sulfonic acid being used in commonly and I can’t remember. How corrosive is this acid? -
