Why can’t collagen and elastin be permanently injected?
That may sound like a stupid question but I don’t understand why they can’t be injected into the skin of aging people to reverse wrinkles and sagging for good. Or why not fat. Is there no way of inserting a form of collagen and elastin that won’t degrade?It’d be better than Botox or fillers. Even when you see celebs with that stuff, it doesn’t make their faces doesn’t look like they used to…even though that is the intention. -

Collagen and elastin are macromolecule, it contain amino acid which can act as allergen, if you sure use human collagen or elastin its might be possible, but if it derivate from porcine or bovine are you want to inject that to your body?

I also think because it’s a biomolecule that is naturally broken down over time. It’s the same reason the collagen and elastin that your body produces doesn’t last forever.

Yes, Collagen and Elastin break down over time and as you age you produce less of each. I don’t know of any injectible that does not naturally degrade once injected into the body.

@MarkBroussard - I suppose there are plastics you could inject that might not degrade in the body over time.

Collagen and elastin fibres need to be in a precise orientation in a specific place in order to work. It’s not like the ‘random gel’ formed by hyaluronic acid. Sure, HA in theory has a very fast catabolism but somehow (I suppose due to its tremendous water binding) does degrade slower than pure proteins such as collagen and elastin. The latter would likely just form some sort of lump in the connective tissue without doing anything to the skin above.

Nope … that is not photoshopped … it’s two twins in the film business. There are some actors/actresses who have grossly disfigured their faces with plastic surgery and injectibles.
Sad thing is, when they look in the mirror, the probably think they look great.
