Why big shampoo brands like p&g, uniliver and others all use Sodium xylene sulfonate in their shampoos?

What functions does Sodium xylene sulfonate have other than cleaning hair and reducing viscosity?

It’s a hydrotrope used to help suspend and help silicon better deposit on hair.

See this article on what hydrotopes are and why they are used.

@Perry suspend What? Does it suspend EGDS or EGMS in shampoo?

If yes, how much of it can suspend 1% EGMS?

They suspend the Dimethicone.  This is used in 2-in-1 shampoos.
