  Use of Cocamidopropyl Betaine in Leave-In and Styling Products

  I have seen a few ethnic hair brands use cocamidopropyl betaine in leave-in and styling mousses etc… I understand that it has some conditioning properties, but most manufacturers market it as a cleansing agent which is to be used as a rinse off product. Can someone please enlighten me?

  I can only guess as I haven’t used this ingredient in a leave-on.  But in a mousse it could help with creating the foam. It could also help the product rinse out more easily when the customer is ready to remove it from their hair.  Do you have an example that is already on the market of this type of formula?

  You can use Oleyl Betaine (Lubrizol)  for mousse to provide both foam and conditioning or as a regular pour on/rinse conditioner.
