  • Unpleasant odor caused by plant extracts

    Good Morning to everybody,

I would like to ask you a question regarding odor in cosmetics. Is it possible to reduce or mask odor in a facial serum?. The unpleasant odor comes from the actives (plant extracts) we use in the formulation. We would prefer not having to add a fragrance.
    Any ideas?.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Honestly it would take me half an hour to look all those Latin names up. Just remove the ones that smell bad, is my advice.

try adding zeolite, it could possibly absorb the unpleasant odor.

Filter with activated carbon and/or silica.

But honestly, the easiest thing to do is just to reduce the amount of the extracts to 0.001% or lower. They don’t actually provide any benefits.

How about a different marketing concept?

    It REEKS and it WORKS.
..of course, you have to solve the problem on the “works” aspect first.
Like : Buckley’s cough syrup slogan is: “It tastes awful and it works”.
