Questions on scalp spray formula
Hello all. I am trying to figure out a formula for a scalp spray. The spray should promote a healthy scalp free of dandruff, itching, while reducing hair loss, and should be used daily. I’m questioning some of the ingredients in the formula however and was hoping to receive some advice.
My questions are: is the use of a chelating ingredient necessary?
I originally had PEG-40 included in the formula but wanted a less synthetic option so I replaced it with sorbitan oleate decyl. Crosspolymer (poly suga muse D9). Is that even necessary or can I do without?Phase A
aloe Vera juice 67.95%Euxyl k903 .75%Glycerin. 8%Disodium edta. .2%Phase B
hydrolyzed jojoba esters. 5%Sorbitan oleate decyl. Crosspolymer(poly suga muse D9). 6.5%
lavender oil. 1%Tea tree oil. .5%Vitamin e. .1%Phase C
horsetail extract. 2%Neem extract. 2%Saw palmetto extract. 2%Kerascalp. 1%Baicapil. 3%Critic acid. qsAny and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would say you need something to solubilize/ Emulsify the tea Tree and lavender oil. not Shure if the Sorbitan Oleate Decyl is the Right one for that. Depends on the fact if you want to have an emulsion or clear spray.
the gelating agent can be beneficial within extract heavy Formulations because it prevents flocculation of the extracts. but that greatly depends on Production water Quality and the Quality of the Extracts from my experience. if you want to do it without you can try and see if there is flocculation happening or not you see that very fast 2 weeks at 40 °C should give a hint if it is a problem or not.

@Gordof Thank you so much for your advice. I was trying to stay away from PEGs to solubilize which is where the Sorbitan Oleate Decyl came in.
One more question if I may. Do you think the preservative chosen will suffice at the amount I’ve listed? -
I would say conservation is ok but in the end, you must try it in a Test if it is sufficient or not.
i personally would use in a formulation like that a conservation of Natrium Benzoate 0.5 % and Kaliumsorbat 0,3 % with a ph of 4.5-5.5
but yours is working good as well I would say.
