Making Hair wax and have been told that:

Current process is: Oil phase + Water phase (Both aroud 180F) Mixed and cooled.

Liquid PVP/VA Copolymer: should be mixed in during Cool down phase around 120F.

Powder PVP: Should be mixed in during water phase at 180F.

Does Mixing PVP powder in water at 180F reduce it’s hold/fixative properties?

    Thanks!

no, it’s very heat-resistant (as are VP/VA copolymers)

In my formulations with PVP, I have always added it to the water phase first thing along with fixative and heated to 82c-87c/180f/190f then mixed with oil phase. I’ve also done a one pot, mixing water and oil phases together and bringing to temp.

As Bill stated, it is pretty heat resistant.

    @ Bill_Toge and Dirtnap1

It sounds like both are very heat resistant. I may try adding the pvp/va in the water phase next time instead of the cool down phase.

    Thanks!
