Preserve Aloe with Glycerin?
If I blended up my own aloe for formulations, can I preserve it with glycerin? Not the formulation of course, but the actually aloe thats been blended? I understand if that is done the glycerin % must be higher then the water base. Ive also been told just to freeze it or try to only blend up what is needed. Ive also heard it can store in the fridge for up to a month but others have said a week…Ive seen other forms of preserving it for longer but Im not so sure its accurate. Maybe it just helps it to stay fresh a bit longer…

Peace, what you are alluding to is water activity (Aw) as a means of preservation. IF the total amount of free water is sufficiently lower than bound water, your mixture will stay uncontaminated - to an extent. This is why honey can stay out of the fridge. Your glycerine:water ratio must be 2:3 or greater, if you can add a little xylitol even better. Acidify with citric acid to pH 3.0 and you may be good for years. Aloe vera is naturally acidic You may still need to worry about molds so keep a tight lid on it.

Freezing is also great, fridge on the other hand max for a week.

Just out of curiousity, @PeaceLoveNaturals when you blend the aloe do you keep the skin or just the inner ‘goop’

@chemicalmatt Thank you thats exactly what i wanted to know. @Pharma Yes I may freeze and see how it unthaws before use. I hear sometimes freezing can destroy some of the good nature of products.
