Hello, Im trying to find an ingredient for a hair pomade Im working on. The ingredient is Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl but I cant seem to find it anywhere to order. Is there another name for this chemical I should be searching for? Thank you.

Ahhh, I see. Do you reckon I could just switch this ingredient out with another? Any thoughts on what I could switch this out with?

I imagine any styling polymer will potentially work.  PVP perhaps? This is where you’ll have to experiment. It depends on what characteristics you are going for (hold, feel, manageability, etc).

Ok thank you so much. Im very new to this so I wasnt sure what ingredients are swappable. Am I safe to assume that most ingredients are swappable for other ingredients with similar properties?

Yes and No. Some ingredients with the same characteristics are swappable, others are not. It just depends on what ingredient you’re talking about and what the application is.

For example, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a surfactant and so it Cetrimonium Chloride. But they are not swappable in a formula.

But soybean oil could probably be swapped with sunflower seed oil. It just depends.
