  • How to thicken sulfate shampoo blend?

Posted by Anonymous on April 6, 2015 at 4:41 am

I have been trying to get my shampoo to thicken  using a sulfate blend. I am not able to thicken it, it is ALL thick bubbles. I have been told to use salt, but I am not sure what they mean by adding salt? do I make a water mixture with salt and then add it or do I add the salt directly? I have tried to heat it, cool it, increase the ph, lower the ph, to no avail. Please help!!!

I have been formulating for several years, but I have not ever been able to formulate using sulfates. This is so frustrating. After I learn I will probably laugh at myself.

    Thank you for your help.

    This should answer your question.

In case you don’t want to use Salt you could use PEG - 4 rapeseedamide instead. Roughly, for every 1% of SLES (70% active) use approximately 0.25% of the latter. Use also very low shear speed 600rpm. This system will also de-aerate fast in a matter of hours and thickens as it cools

I will try both of these options. I really appreciate all of the help!
