I am trying to make a daily curl moisturizer for curly hair (kinky, coils to wavy and all curls in between).

I want it to be spray able and keep it at a pH between 4.5 and 5.5.

I also want it to be as natural as possible . Following the Eco cert and NPA standards.

Here is the formula that I have:

Water or aloe leaf juice: 66.5%
    Shea Butter : 7%
    Vegetable glycerin: 3%
    Castor oil : 5%
    Avocado oil: 3%
    Sweet almond oil: 4%
    Meadow foam oil: 2%
    Broccoli oil: 2%
    Bamboo extract: 2%
    Dl-panthenol: 2%
    Essential oil: 2% (.5 lavender, .5 lemon)
Irish moss: .5 (want as a curl activator)
Perservative: : 1% (C8:0 (Caprylic) Acid, 1,3 Propanediol (Vegetable), C12:0 (Lauric) Acid, Potassium sorbate)

My question is what emulsifier can I use to give me the spray ability that I want.

Was thinking of using the Irish moss as my emulsifier but not sure if it’s the right one or if is even an emulsifier.

Further if there is an issue with my formula can u please point it out.

Unfortunately, you’re going to have a big problem. High oil load, sprayable, and natural do not go together. You will have to pick any two.

Let us know what you decide and we can take it from there.
(Personally, if I had to make this kind of product, I’d probably give up on the idea of an emulsion completely, and make a water-based product without any oils, except for a bit of conditioner)

Thank for the advise. I have decided to go with water based, sprayable and natural.

Hello, if you can give “natural” a bit of push, you will find that Volarest FL from Croda can solve your problem. It is specially designed for “spray products” Best of luck. edwardgaunt@gmail.com
