  • Hair styling Clay- Sea vs Kaolin

Looking to make a hair styling Clay. What is the difference between Kaolin and Sea clay? Are there different subsections of each?

I understand that bentonite is much more porous and will absorb more than kaolin.

Been working with waxes, this is my first venture into clays for hair styling.

Stay away from bentonite, it is very alkaline.

Er… no. I’ve never heard of “sea clay”. It would be a good idea for you to investigate the properties of the different clays.

Belassi- That’s why I was asking. I have been trying to find info on the clays, but all the property info I can seem to find relates to skin or hair cleansing, not hair styling. Any suggested resources for info on clays for use with hair styling?

In general, all clays are silicates with additions of one or more minerals that modify it. Bentonite is a relatively coarse clay that is not suitable for hair styling and will result in reddening and irritation if in contact with the skin. Kaolin is the mildest of all clays and is either white or creamy. Rose, or red clays have ferric oxide in them.
