I’m new to the formulation of shampoo, but I have a mix of ingredients that I would like to mix together if possible. These are the ingredients I recently purchased: Glycerin, Decyl Glucoside, DMD Hydantoin, Polyquaternium 7 and Laureth 4.

I’ve already received good advice from a member on here that thought all of these ingredients should be water soluble. However they were not positive if all of the above ingredients could be mixed without the use of a shear mixer. If I was to mix these ingredients together what RPM would be required to guarantee a successful mix? Also I’ve searched everywhere on the internet for a reliable electronic PH tester. I noticed some PH testers are used for things other than shampoo, so I was curious what is a safe PH tester that most of you guys would use?

*Also if you post on this discussion I will be able to see it, but for some reason I can’t respond to this discussion once I’ve created it. If you post on this I will probably try to send you a personal message to discuss it further

You should be able to respond to any message on this post (or any other post for that matter).  If you are having problems hit the ‘refresh’ button on your browser. Sometimes that helps.

As to your question, why don’t you mix together the ingredients and then ask your questions?
The RPM to use is the speed at which the ingredients mix together but does not cause the batch to be too aerated. No one can answer a question like that because we don’t know your particular set-up.
I don’t have a specific pH meter to recommend but either of these will work and are relatively inexpensive. This pH meter or even this pH meter would work.

I have a comment box at the bottom, thanks for the information and advice on this. I didn’t mix these ingredients yet, just wanted to get advice on how to go about mixing a batch like this properly before mixing. I got some good advice from a member on here through messages about the process of mixing these ingredients. They informed me that all are water soluble and depending on each ingredient should mix in at 300 rpm in 2-10 minutes and some would take longer to dissolve in. Basically they said I could use certain types of mixers from the kitchen for this batch and blade shouldn’t be much of an issue, but will find out soon. Also just a basic electronic $15 ph meter should work by placing shampoo on the end when finished mixing.
