  • Esterquad as remplacement for ctac

    Greetings

Im running out of ctac, there  arent another substitute as btac or alike available for ha ir conditioner, I have been making some test ussing pq7, pq40 and coco propil betaine at low ph, but the results are not Good enough.

Today I come across to a New brooker in my country that offered a ester quad called”Dihydrogenated Tallowamidoethyl Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate”, Wich I saw that its mainly used in fabric softeners, but researching a little it is used in a lot of 2 in 1 shampoo as pert plus, and i found a little of information about ester quads in used conditioners but no one was the one I Just found.

I would like  to Know if some one has used esterquads as remplacement or maybe as a synergetic ingredient in conditioner, and could gave me any hint, the brooker only sells sealed 400Lb drums and that doesnt give me choice to try small batches.

    Another question is:
    Dihydrogenated Tallowamidoethyl Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate

This type I use for my fabric conditioner formulations, though a check with your supplier would be a good idea. Generally the difference in such grades is the level of impurities, commonly they all are substantive.

@Chemist77 Thanks for your answer, in your fabric formulations do you use it as a primary cationic?, does it have strong surfactance to act as a sole surfactant for fatty alcohols ?

Suppliers as Evonik, Lg Household and Kao provides little information about ussing Esterquats as replacement, but mainly focusing in enviromental care.

And this formulation given by Stepan, by the way 20% of lauramine oxide looks like too much.

No mine is based on the esterquat and HEUR thickener/stabilizer, so it’s pretty simple. The product sells good and no issues with stability.
As for fatty alcohols I am sure if formulated properly along with some Glyceryl Stearate you can get a good stable product. You can use Lauramine Oxide 1% and see how it works out.

Arquad® PC SV-60 PG (AKZO NOBEL) should be a good replacement.

I don’t see any problem replacing the CTAC with the ester quat and in fact should be better with di-tallow hyrophobes.I would request a sample from drum to make a lab batch and see how it is in your formula.

@DRBOB@VERDIENT.BIZ   Thanks you very much, the dealer doesnt want to open the drum, they sells only sealed/unopen drums, i want to take any information available before buying a pallet.
