    Hi

Is 5% PVP K90 alone, sufficient for holding/fixation or is it necessary to add PVP/VA copolymers with PVP K 90?

    Can i use polyquaternium-4 with pvp k90?

    Thanks

PVP K90 will work alone. But it might be sticky in humid weather.

    Solution A

    Water 71.3%
    Carbomer 0.5%
    Disodium EDTA 0.2%
    Glycerin 0.5%
    Germall Plus 1%

    Solution B

    Water 20%
    PVP K90 3%
    Polyquaternium-4 2%

    Solution C

    PEG40 Hydrogenised Castor Oil 0.8%
    Fragrance 0.2%

    Solution D

    Solution C + Solution B
    Triethanolamine TEA 0.5

When mixing solution D in Solution A, creates cloudy, bubbly watery liquid not gel.

What could be a problem here?

    Thanks in advance.

Neutralize the carbomer first and then add the PVP solution.
Polyquaternium -4 is a cationic, try with and without as carbomer is anionic.

I think you can also try out by polyquaternium 11 work very fine .

I neutrilize the carbomer first, got a good gel but as soon as i introduced PVP solution, lost gel consistency.

Should I use PVP carbomer in 1:1?

Same issue when I tried HEC instead of Carbomer.
