We all know that hair is dead? But how do we keep in that same state of dead? In my experience, hair has been known to continue to grow and look radiant or break off and look fragile. does anyone have thoughts on these two products and their claims? So if anyone is interested? I have samples from a couple of experiments I have conducted. Red to blonde with 30 volume bleach on the scalp 2X. Or foiling hair with 40 volume bleach over bleached hair. I used b3 and olaolex on half of the head and took hair strand before and after.

I want to show a before and after pic of red to blonde but can not figure out from here.

Just to jump in here, we’re mostly chemists so our opinion would be on the chemistry of this compound, and our interest would be in remaking it or making it into something better, rather than purchasing it for use.

That being said, I had a customer asking about Olaplex a while ago. I checked their patent  and BIS-AMINOPROPYL DIGLYCOL DIMALEATE ingredient and from what I understood it makes bonds with the proteins on the hair surface to re-claim the integrity that peroxides take-away.

Thank your for your feedback. I understand wanting to make something better. I guess that is actually leads to my question. Is Brazilian Blowouts competitive/remake product as good as Olaplex? I am taking the Practical Cosmetic Formulation course. I am sure I will learn more as I make my way through the modules. I will be satisfied to have a better understanding of what goes into the products I use. It will be fun to make a few things too. I will look up the ingredient and patent. Thank you!

going by the MSDS for the Brazilian Blowouts product, it appears the magic ingredient is Hydrogenated Castor Oil / Sebacic Acid Copolymer, also known as Crodabond CSA

it looks like it’s designed to achieve a similar result using different technology; whether or not it actually achieves this result I can’t say, not having used either product

Interesting topic, hoping not too late to hear update from Angela.  Have you been using B3 and Olaplex and if so, what are your opinions on the results.  I’m a colorist, salon owner and manufacture professional hair care products and just started with my own testing……
