Cosmetic testing for Solid and Balm Products, needed or not? Just looking for co
Hi, I am am the owner of skin care company currently bringing a moisturizer to market. I had Preservative Challenge and HRIPT testing done for the product. I want to eventually begin to bring my other products to market. I have heard those tests may not be needed necessary for them given they aren’t made with water, but I want to do my due diligence for my customers. If not these tests what is needed?
The future products are as follows:
Syndet cleansing bar
Oil based cleanser with added glycerine
A scrub formulated w/o oil or water
Lip balm
Oil based salve

Well, it depends on which country you want to launch your products in.
In Europe normally you need a Microbiotical Tests en Epicutan test and a Safty Accassment to launch a product. The person responsible for the safety assessment can argue that some test additional are needed or you can skip tests if you have a clear argumentation way. For Non-Water Based Products you don’t need to Perform a Microbiolotcal Study but you need a document in which you state the “way” you don’t need it.
For Other regions in the World there might be additional or Variating Demands for a Product.

We manufacture some similar products and prefer to do the testing. Plus, we retain samples and our QC Manager will continue with various lab tests beyond the use-by-date.

Content testing is important but preservative testing by typivcl protocol is pretty meaningless for such products. You should get a risk assessment for product and production.

Please be aware that anhydrous products can be contaminated. Note recall of an anhydrous eye ointment due to Bacillus cereus contamination.
