Build-up does not increase, it is just replaced, but that is without Amedimethicone.

Soap made with caustic soda is not soluble like potash soap, therefore it will not be transparent.

I do not know, I never tried myself, but some people seem to make this work. http://soapmaking168.blogspot.com/2013/10/thickening-liquid-soap-with_2.html
I tried salt and borax, was not happy with the results, then I discovered the foam pump bottle and it resolved the problem. With the foam pump bottle ( It is also available in the electronic refillable version with sensors) you can use your liquid soap as is and get really nice thick foam.

I never intended to use liquid soap as a shampoo since the high PH is not great for hair.

If you use caustic soda instead of potash you will get a soap bar, not thick liquid soap. If you combine both potash and caustic soda you can make shaving soap. Thickening liquid soap is difficult, I never tried with Hec, but like Ketchito was saying you need to split the water needed to dissolve the potash soap paste between the soap paste and the HEC to test this solution.

In my personal opinion, they all perform well as conditioners for 1-6.

BTMS leaves a greasy feel if you have fine hair like mine.
Behentrimonium Chloride is high-performing, leaves a small residue.
SPDMA or Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine works well for me, it does not leave residues that weigh down my fine hair, this one is high volume. Others with thick dry hair might prefer a different one. I have not tried them with 1% Amodimethicone. Different people have different hair needs.

For making syndet bars; I use SCI powder that I melt with other dry and liquid surfactants.  You can use SLES too.
At the same time I melt the fatty alcohols and fats in a separate beaker and combine them to make my syndet.
Some people do not melt. They combine surfactant noodles, melt fatty alcohols and fats, and use a press. Check youtube there are many videos and starter formulations available. The Lush company sells a syndet bar that is made of SLES noodle that is pressed.

Thank you, I will stick with EO from NewDirections.

I agree with Helen. I do not want too much playtime either. I use a lot of hand cream, I like a non-greasy and cushiony cream.

I use natural fragrances from NaturesFlavors. They are specialized so I assumed they would have a good product.

This is the INCI I found from a fancy natural body care company.
Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Leaf/Twig Oil, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Tocopherol, Limonene, Linalool, Citral.  I guess I could try to make something similar.

Well, at this time I will take anything. I understand how difficult citrus scents are and how they easily vanish.

I tried the Griffin Remedy daily conditioner expecting that it would not work and I was shocked. It smelled nice orange essential oil and it performed extremely well, so well I would buy if I did not make my own. I have fine colored wavy hair that frizz easily. It must contain Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine or something similar.

Regarding comic relief; I thought the vitamin B complex, instead of panthenol was very original.

Is not using INCI legal? The Griffin Remedy brand is very popular here, they are sold at Whole Foods in my area. I agree with you Perry, I think they are not listing the cationic ingredients. Unfortunately, the alternative of applying oils to hair is not very attractive. I am sticking with cationic surfactants and giving up on trying to make a comparable conditioner. Thank you for your help, you saved me from doing additional experiments.

Are you getting your inspiration for a natural shampoo formulation from the Griffin Remedy?
purified water, certified Organic aloe vera gel, coconut glycerin, decyl glucoside, shea butter, vitamin B complex vitamin E, saw palmetto extract, certified Organic chamomile extract, sea buckthorn fruit oil, guar gum, certified Organic lavender hydrosol, orange essential oil, certified Organic jojoba oil, soy protein, kelp extract, MSM, calendula extract, comfrey extract, rosemary extract, sage extract, sodium levulinate, soap nut extract

I do not think aloe vera gel is a real cosmetic ingredient. If you look at their conditioner they also have unusual ingredients that are not normally found in conditioner.

I think they removed it because cocamidopropyl betaine was named allergen of the year in 2004 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
