Like to remove a sunless tanner?
-
@Gene I don’t “want to.” I wanted to make sure I had interpreted something I read on an old post correctly. I’m glad I asked, because both of your responses are very helpful .
Now that I’m thinking about the idea it seems obvious that covering “bug food” in something that draws in water is a horrible idea

@Microformulation thank you for being so encouraging!
So if a product claims to help decrease dry skin and/or protect against it, it automatically shifts to being considered an otc? And the active ingredients that add those traits to the product have to be ones the FDA have listed for those conditions and in the percentages found on the monograph?
It sounds very much like the FDA’s definition of supplements and how they must be taken by mouth since they’re considered food. It’s rather sad, because fat soluble substances like D3 would likely have a much better absorption rate at a lower dosage if they were applied inside the nostrils
But I have strayed very far off topic.
I don’t want to hijack this thread.
I will continue researching FDA regulations. Thank you again -
I’m trying to understand. You only get the flakes when you try to restyled it after it dries?

You could make a “lid” for your measuring cup that has a piece cut out the size of the mixer wand.
The safest thing to do is purchase some glass beakers designed for this type of work, but I know they can be expensive

Thank you for sharing that information with me and giving me the correct terminology @Microformulation I’m incredibly new at all of this. And I knew regulations were handled by the FDA, but I didn’t know that regulations of active ingredients were called monographs.
Once upon a time I was working towards being a research biologist in cellular biology. Searching for papers on various things that tickle my brain is still something I do quite often.
A 4% dimethicone(dimeticone) product that’s left on for 15 minutes I believe is commonly used in the UK and NZ. I wonder if it would be worthwhile for someone to file to have it used similarly here?
And I sincerely apologize if the information I shared was misleading
-
I found it in a study, not a product
-
That’s actually a really good price on isolate. It’s super expensive. I’m hoping the price will drop a bit because of this year’s farm bill, but not so much it hurts small farmers who’ve gotten the industry off the ground

And menthol didn’t help my pain AT ALL. I slathered on enough biofreeze to send me running for a hot shower to warm up when my pain is muscle based. It did nothing
-
I was ready for it to not work at all, but surprisingly it does reduce my pain when applied to specific areas. I also have a sublingual supplement that’s 1000mg in 30ml.
The sad part is there is very little research on its transdermal absorption, so we’re going into this blind as scientists. The half life of a sublingual dose seems to be 1.44 hours
-
It looks like because of growing pesticide resistance in lice, the US is moving towards dimethicone. Which other countries have been using for quite some time
-
After doing a little more research it looks like the target dose is about 8mg-22mg, depending on the size of the person. So I’m at least at the low end of that.
But this method of listing concentration is intentionally misleading and imprecise at best. I think I’m going to look up medical studies of CBD tomorrow and see what dosages were being used.
-
@Bobzchemist how do you think a combination of magnesium stearate and kaolin clay would work?
-
I’m now thinking about this quite hard, because I bought both cbd oil and cream for my back. I have degenerative discs disease and NSAIDS used regularly give me rebound headaches.
Creams and lotions are measured in volumes, not weight, correct?
So the cream I own, 500mg 2oz, is claiming to be 8.45mg of CBD per ml of cream
I’m going to have to do stoichiomtry to figure out if I’ve been ripped off, aren’t I?

I would need something with an HLB somewhere between 8-12 to get the oil to disperse throughout the system?
nope, I’m pretty sure I’m not understanding that correctly

I was thinking more using a non-comedogenic body butter a bit before showering and then exfolating off the excess in the shower, but I support you living your best life!

The lower infection and spread of disease is primarily due to improvements in sanitation like plumbing so we don’t contaminate our water sources. And don’t get me wrong, a foamy, sudsy shower after camping for a camping for a week may be one of the best feelings in the WORLD!
But I think we would be healthier and more comfortable if we used daily bathing methods that helped our skin maintain homeostasis of the skin’s acid mantle and saved the soap based cleaning for about once a week or when we are truly dirty.
Of course that excludes hand washing with soap and any type of anti-contamination protocols. Those should always be done

I’m really, really, really new.
But I think your last post about a product containing AHA contains some clues about why professionals are not offering advice on this. Implying their lack of interaction on this post is because of a lack of knowledge or security is a way to pretty much guarantee they will be even less inclined to help -
I think it’s a really problem that we approach cleaning the body in much the same way approach cleaning inanimate objects.
Our skin is a biome, and many of the methods we use to clean it seriously impact it’s homeostasis. (I think my biology background is showing)
