Do you think it could be due to mixing issues? This formulation surely doesnt require a sheer mixer at all as its 100% oil based formula and PG 4 oleate doesnt need to be heated at all. Im adding all ingredients in room temp. I weigh PG 4 oleate separately in a beaker first and leave it aside. Then i add all oils in another beaker and once they are mixed properly, I pour this oil blend into the PG 4 oleate beaker slowly whilst stirring the final blend.

Hi. I would like to mention that im having the same problem with cleanser not coming off due to becoming thick creamy texture when mixed with water. However, ive seen a well known organic formulator making it exactly the same way im making it using the same recipe. Also i know some great oil cleansers already in market with same formulations of 15%polyglycerl-4oleate and remaining oils. Now i need to know why im having issues even though the formulation isnt an issue???

Please note im talking about 100% oil based formulation with 15% polyglyceral 4 olate , grapseed oils, coconut oils and vit E

  • No it get washed very easily ( as long as we use warm water or cloth) and the instructions on the ingredient website also said it can be used in oil only formulation as a cleaning agent

@Chemist77 thanku for ur input. Ive thought to use a dark colored oil to give a hint of color( anything other than yellow) i wana give to the serum so thats kind of sorted.  With regards to shampoo, I am going to look into soap micas which are blends of titanium dioxide with micas/colors as ive seen ppl using them to color soaps. Hope m not going to ruin the shampoo :D any suggestions are welcome

Hi @Belassi have u had any luck with this shampoo you are talking about? After doing a lot of research about natural colorants for shampoo, i came up with spirulina powder but I need someones input who has worked with it before? I have been advised by one of the formulators i know through a friend that it can be used from 0.5% to 1% in the formulations by mixing the powder in some warm water first. Im concerned that if I use it, will it destabilize the whole formulation when made in big batches? Will the color stay the same throughout? What are your thoughts/experiences?

Hi @Belassi thAnku for replying. This is the actual confusion that what is the approved color for shampoos? Im not havin luck in searching them online as im probably not puttin the right keyword. I know they have CI names but i need to know which sort of suppliers will hve them and what do we call it?

Also, any idea about using micas in oil only serum jus for a little bit of color as in few drops? Will it be the same issue with the bubbles or what? Thanku once again for ur patience :)

What product is this for? When u say oxidation check, do you mean product stability and things like microbial growth etc?

if you want to check the stability then it depends on the type of product.  Looking forward to hearing about the type and i may be able to suggesst somethin

@Chemist77 hi I followed ur method of just sprinking it on the water held at room temp and neutrialised it with some citric acid. I just want to update u on the trials so far. As soon as i added citric acid solution, it became like a gel so I didnt leave it for another 15-20mins to hydrate. I waited about 5mins and added all water phase ingrediants and mixed them well. thickness in final samples looks fine but it looks like something isnt dissolved properly as the liquid isnt clear and have to keep shaking to make it look even.  Have u got any idea why is this happening? Do i need to heat the water phase? Im using cold process to make this.

Hi @Gunther thanks for gettin bak on that. When u say I should extract them myself, do u mean using powdered plants and lettin them seep in hot water etc? I have actually found alcohol free liquid extracts from one of the good suppliers. Im going to use those first and make one sample with powdered extracts too. The only reason i avoid actual dried plant or powder is because i dont prefer making herbal teas or decoctions due to more chances or microbial growth etc. I dont know If im right about it but thats wat i feel- will have to experiment :)

So would you say I can add it by mixin in the glycerin first, make a separate paste of xanthan gum and add these 2 pastes one by one in the water?

    Hi @Belassi
u mentioned about these suppliers as hobby suppliers which worrys me in terms of getting supplies from them for my product. If you mean to say they arent as reliable as the proper firms who sell bulk ingrediants, does it mean i shouldnt rely on them for buyin ingrediants for my product which i wana sell? Just curious.

Ok great but the only concern is that i want to avoid duty and shipment charges. Having something locally would save me on that isnt? What are your thoughts?

Hi catherine, m trying to make a few samples at this stage with different % to see which one works better. I need these in very small quantity to do trials and once ive finalised the formula, ill be in a position to order upto 10-20kg or more.
