And the guy who runs Siltech (Tony O’Lenick) is an excellent resource for all questions related to silicones.

A low level of Glycol Monostearate always worked for me.

Hello Cathrine - Welcome to the cosmetic science discussion forum! What does S.A. stand for?

Hello everyone!
I’ve looked into this RSS question and discovered there is an RSS feed. It just happened to be broken. I fixed it and here it is…Put this in your feed reader and you’ll be able to follow all the new discussions automatically. Incidentally, if you just wanted to subscribe to specific categories there are feeds for that also. (e.g. https://chemistscorner.com/cosmeticsciencetalk/categories/formulating/feed.rss ) -

Sometimes I find good info on Slideshare. (e.g. http://www.slideshare.net/search/slideshow?searchfrom=header&q=hair+care+market) -
These materials are both powders so the question doesn’t make sense. If you are talking about aqueous solutions of the compounds, then yes, they are soluble.

You should lower the pH of the formula. Typically, conditioners have a pH range closer to the isoelectric point of hair ~pH = 4

Hello Neelabh,
I’m not sure how to do the RSS. Did we have it before?Perry, 44 -
Yes, you could try a chelating agent like Tetrasodium EDTA.

This isn’t a problem per se but it could be if you don’t use a strong enough shampoo to remove them.
But things like Dimethiconol or Cyclomethicone can give you the benefits of silicones without the worry of build-up. -
@wintermute - great to have you aboard Mike! You’ve done a great job with the Michigan SCC.

It definitely feels different than if you washed it with shampoo. And @Gustavo is correct SLS is one of the better cleansing detergents out there.
I don’t really see much need to avoid SLS or ingredients like it however, as it depends more on the formulation and less on the specific ingredients used. You can make a perfectly gentle formula using SLS. -
Great! Glad it worked for you.

But if you intend to sell your lipstick or give it to other people then you will have to do microbial contamination testing.
No, there is no obvious way to tell if a local producer has done testing. It’s just a legal requirement that they ensure their products are safe. For more information contact @The_Microbiologist . His company specializes in this type of testing. -
Welcome aboard Bob (@vocenal)! There are a number of cosmetic programs around the world which you can see here. I don’t know of any in Canada however.

The primary differences are these…
1. Leave-in - Contains a high level of humectants, very low level (or none) quats. Lower level of most ingredients as you don’t need as much since it doesn’t get rinsed away.2. Rinse-off - Contains a high level of Quats. Not as much humectants since they aren’t really effective from a rinse off. Higher level of silicone also.Perry, 44 -
Yes, I don’t see this as having much impact on most markets. It’s not surprising that a country with such lax regulation on buildings has limited regulations on cosmetics.
-
lol. It just looks like a generic printing of their name. The deeper meaning is lost on me.

Worth a shot. But you need to include a preservative with that much water.

For suspending pearls, you’ll need to include a Carbomer.
