  • @Pharma clay mask without clay.. we might try that and see if anyone notices 😉
    @Imosca Thanks for your input! The redness does seem to occur even if the bentonite is omitted. The amount of bentonite is only 3%, Kaolin is 33%. The PH is tested after the formulation has been completed.
    We haven’t tested PH at regular intervals though, as we didn’t think it would drift too much, but might be worth doing that.

  • Hi @Pharma thanks for your response, PH of the product is ~5.
    Yes, the preservatives used are noted sensitizers, what would be your alternative preservative?
    We use the same preservatives for a moisturizer, serum and cleanser. Generally without issue, so it’s a bit of a mystery so far.

  • @Belassi Yeah sorry, I thought I mentioned initially it was a mask formula, I should have. No bentonite.
    I knocked the CAPB, redness still occurs. Thinking the  Acai extract next to knock out.
  • Thanks Perry & Belassi for your thoughts & feedback. @Belassi The thought behind including CAPB in small amount (1%) was to thicken and help the masks cleansing effect.
    I do have a feeling it could be the CAPB though, so I’ll do knock out and see how we go.

    @MarkBroussard is the below preservative suggestion a ready made preservative product already on the market or would you mix up yourself? If done yourself what  % of each ingredient would you suggest?
    Also, at what % level would you suggest adding to a formulation?

    @hemmnathan:

    You could always try coupling 1,2-Hexanediol & Caprylyl Glycol with Sodium Levulinate (and) Sodium Anisate

    @MarkBroussard

    Perhaps I am getting old, but what’s the problem with simply rolling a joint, smoking a pipe or mixing it in with some Shisha tobacco in a Hookah.

    I’m with you 100% ::smiley:

    @GordonE I’m no Vaper, but I feel like I’ve heard that Vape juice is made from glycerine + flavours etc.. Is that right?

    If so, I’d assume there’s there’s no chance of it going rancid, as rancidity would only apply to oils/fats.

    Bill_Toge Thank you very much for your time and info :)
    There’s 2% Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate.
    I’ve been using reverse osmosis water. I’ll add in Disodium EDTA as a chelator to test results.
    I’ve read that sodium metabisulfite might be an option to help reduce oxidation of the formula. Do you recommend giving that or something similar a try?

    Also, I’m wondering as you’re a professional chemist, do you have an opinion on using Vit C and Vit B3 together, as there’s so much conflicting information.
    Thanks again for your time
