Co-wash is a fancy word for washing hair with a conditioner instead of shampoo. It might work for very dry scalp and hair (I read it’s ok for 4B/4C hair types), but it’s not really washing.

What do you want glycolic acid to do in your formula? 1% isn’t high to cause irritation but it will not add any benefits either at this concentration. If you add it for claims, you can add even less than 1%.

I tried amodimethicone by makingcosmetics (in shampoo). Quite a nice material and easy to work with.

Mixing chemical and physical scrub is a bad idea. It will cause irritation for the most skin types.
-
Are you referring to co-washing?
-
Not all solid emulsifiers have thickening properties.
-
Replace dimethicone to the watersoluble amodimethicone if you want to add conditioning.
-
Exclude dimethicone and try again. It’s most probably the issue.

I know that homogenizer is important and I hope to buy it one day. Thank you @Bill_Toge for an idea. Ultra Turex looks small (and I guess allows making small batches) and I found a couple of used models on ebay within $500.

It should thicken with salt but you are suggesting to replace mild surfactant to a harsh one. The product won’t be the same.

Quite an impressive choice of makeup ingredients. W/Si emulsifiers for foundations, film formers for products like mascaras and eyeliners, some nice silicones. DIY reseller.

What type of colorant are you using?
-
You are using mild surfactants but they are very difficult to thicken. Consider using crothix.

That amount of aloe is unnecessary and hard to preserve.
Too much of xanthan.
Glyceryl Stearate SE and Stearic Acid are draggy.
Sun flower oil is prone to rancidity.
I am not sure that .5% of 9010 is sufficient.
I would add disodium EDTA and BHT -
Post the LOI of your benchmark. There are several things that may contribute to a non ‘commercial’ feel in your formula.
-
Many preservatives are sensitive to heat. Check the supplier’s recommendations.

MemberJune 16, 2019 at 12:30 pm in reply to: What is a reasonable price for formula e-book?Customers prefer formulators with background in chemistry. You can create amazing formulas but if you are not a chemist not many people would be willing to pay. Regarding pricing have a look at swiftcraftymonkey blog. She sells ebooks with formulas (non color cosmetics).

I need some advice on my first formulaI agree with previous comments but even a quick look at this LOI is enough to conclude that this product will not remove makeup. Find a benchmark that you like, understand the functional ingredients, ignore the fluff like hyaluronic acid and try to reverse engineer it (with functional ingredients only!).

Ingredient suppliers in the UK:

https://www.aliacura.de/Naturallythinking and Aliacura are focused on “natural”. There is also aromazone in France but I haven’t ordered from them. Again, my advice, if you want to make a claim, create a safe and stable conventional product with good performance and add 0.1% of “natural/organic/crueltyfree etc.” ingredient.

MemberJune 16, 2019 at 7:54 am in reply to: Formulating Salicylic Acid in a Facial Cleansing TonerIs it cold? I added 30% SA (70% PG 30% SA) to water. It should be done very slowly and both water and SA/PG should be room temperature (20C)

@Sponge, the reason I bought this material is that I saw it in every foundation I like. My observation it creates a nice texture but it’s hard to stabilize on its own (w/si made with this alone separates quickly). So, I use three emulsifiers and stabilisers.
-
Unfortunately I do. It’s possible to find not expensive overhead stirrer but not homogenizer. Also homogenizers are pain to clean and it’s impossible to make 100 g batces. Materials for foundation aren’t cheap.
