  • I agree with @”DRBOB@VERDIENT.BIZ” .  & @zinc, dehydration also contributes to that, not just humidity factor.  ….and I am a bad girl for this but …Drinking coffee isn’t the same as drinking water 😉 ….a sticky lip balm is not the only option for long wear in the category of a balmy texture.  “Lasts all day” is subjective to interpretation, also - based on lifestyle, habits and activities.   …yet this coating is not an impossibility to create.  As a lip treatment/lip product addict - aka don’t just make this, I love wearing it… I actually don’t mind re-applying a lip treatment/balm more than once in a day. Good luck with your project.  Here’s a great link to read more about lip health. https://www.webmd.com/beauty/why-your-lips-are-chapped#1

@marytsiang if you are looking for SMALL moq on premade dispersions, TKB trading make their own and they are online.  Sensient also has 1 and 5kg sizes on a lot of their various dispersions.  Koel was at Supplier’s Day but I haven’t tested their dispersions because I create are own in-house dispersions being that all I do is color.  But, for my dispersions, I still cannot go as low in terms of quantity as TKB (they sell as tiny as 2 ounces I think).  Every place will blend theirs differently.  I prefer very saturated colors so rather than tweak dispersions from suppliers, it was just more logical to do my own.  Kobo also has some great dispersions.  Never tried Sun.  There are also some labs that only do dispersions, just use google.

LMAO @Bill_Toge  & @Doreen thanks for that humor.  …you know we need paranormal gifts for some of the requests that we get lol  If it can contribute to the laugher a bit, I was asked if I could “formulate” a textile good the other day.  …while knowing that many textiles can be in fact formulated, I couldn’t help but replying with, “hold on, let me check if my sewing machine is in the closet”.  It’s a pre-requisite for sure: sense of humor.  lol

Happy Sunday everyone @natihuates  as crazy as this sounds, ebay can be a place to find raw materials from some chemical vendors but I agree with the thread.  The matte long wear formulation you are attempting needs a bit more knowledge behind it.  At that, you can achieve beautiful results without using styrene copolymers.  LA Colors does a similar one with that inci. Kobo sells a specialty styrene copolymer to licensed manufacturers or consultants, but it is not for do it yourself home use.  I have a surplus of the Bentone ISDV Gel, as well as other raws for long wear formulations.  Yet, I would never resell to someone not in the business as a professional.  For hobbyists, the multiphase long wear formulations require a certain knowledge base.  TKB trading out of CA (no affiliation they are just nice people)  does offer some pre-made bases that are a much better way to learn about the different phases of a long wear formulation or materials.  Good luck.

@mdig1 I agree. Market research is so important.  Yet, if you are already in the training business, that means you have a market that would buy products, so … Still new here, so if you’ve already launched, hope it is going well.  If not and you are stuck, I can help you with the development process, formulating or manufacturing. Just reach out.  I have experience from a prior few years in the natural trade sector for products designated for equine and canines, specifically.  I have done R&D for Vets before as well.  I always welcome ‘out of my usual’ projects as it keeps me colorful :)

Vegesil used alone feels nice if you are talking about just repackaging it as a finished good.  I just don’t recall if it is preserved, so check the inci or deck on the sds.  It should state it there.  (or ask your rep)  It’s not that complex to mimic the feel of.  Many D5 replacements are nice, but not to be used pure as a serum.  You’d end up craving the feel of something a little more viscous and loving as a face application experience (from a user perspective).  …at that point if you are going to thicken raw materials like that, you might as well make it cost effective and just modify or make your own natural serum that feels just as nice.  I suggest reading more about natural lipids that are compatible with silicones.  It will inspire your creativity and allow you to explore on your own. :)

@sapopp I’m in Southern CA. This ad is old, so you can check out my profile for future reference & I also know Susan Raffy @Microformulation . They go by SRC Labs now (changed their name).  Such a small world.  No doubt. If you need color for the sunshine state, let me know.  I offer flexible MOQ for B2B and that way you manage the projects and retain your clients. :)  I do color for the natural trade also.

@SkincareNYC I realize this is an old post but if you already have all testing/ toxicological data done and run into a speed bump with these, I do consult and can do this from my desk in CA.

@Bobzchemist I logged in tonight after my long 16 hour shift to tell you that YOU made my week.  Great reply.  I got asked for this type of task often and most do not realize that color is an art form on its own.  It’s nice to hear people talking about which machines they want, raw materials they can get for great prices or square footage they need, but at the end of the day, it is the TALENT that is your wow factor & you better believe it.  I 500% agree, it has nothing to do with the size of the lab it is created in.  More like the synaptic firing activity of the talent you hire lol  🙂 God bless anyone who wants to dive into this category.  Yet, only those who experience it from our side of it truly know what is involved. It’s why I opened my own place. lol  & I agree with the dentist comment.  You get the talent you pay for.  My advice for those opening the lab:  start with the talent search or consult with someone you can work/communicate well with.
