It is interesting that DMAE bitartrate comprises only 37% active DMAE

    Pure DMAE mol wt 89.14

    https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/substance/2dimethylaminoethanol891410801011?lang=en®ion=US

DMAE bitartrate salt mol wt 239.22

    https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/aldrich/39000?lang=en®ion=US&cm_sp=Insite-_-noResults_dmae%20bitartrate-_-noResults9-1

     Thus 8% DMAE bitartrate
    is 2.98% active DMAE.

    I’m no attorney
but it seems to be an all-or-nothing list
it doesn’t seem to allow for tiny ppm or ppb amounts like even drinking water does.
    https://oehha.ca.gov/media/downloads/proposition-65/p65122917_0.pdf

    It’s crazy
Large corporations set some % of revenue aside in case they unknowingly break some regs (even if just for ppm or ppb amounts) and get sued.
Cost of doing business in Cali, they say.

I meant that formaldehyde-releasers scare some customers away, like parabens do

so, if you make paraben-free, formaldehyde-releasers-free claims
you’d be forced to look for “safer” alternatives
Benzyl alcohol is approved for lots of injections meds, so far proven safe after decades of use
Benzoates and sorbates are perceived by customers as ok, since they are so widely used in food you eat, again proven ok by decades of nonstop use.

If you’re already using Formaldehyde-Releasers, there’s no need for BA, you often got enough protection from FRs.

I’m not sure if they’re discussing this study:
    Full-text available here
But they don’t describe the gel composition.

    That’s right, 8%
In fact, 8% may not be an exaggerante amount after all (just considering technicals, not costs) as an study used 3% concentration:
In a randomized clinical study, 3% DMAE facial gel applied daily for 16 weeks has been shown to be safe and efficacious (p < 0.05) in the mitigation of forehead lines and periorbital fine wrinkles, and in improving lip shape and fullness and the overall appearance of aging skin. These effects did not regress during a 2-week cessation of application. Beneficial trends (p > 0.05 but </= 0.1) were noted in the appearance of coarse wrinkles, under-eye dark circles, nasolabial folds, sagging neck skin, and neck firmness. Application was found to be well tolerated, with no differences in the incidence of erythema, peeling, dryness, itching, burning, or stinging between the DMAE and placebo groups. An open-label extension of the trial showed that the long-term application of DMAE gel for up to 1 year was associated with a good safety profile.
I really want to find out what study they’re talking about as the one cited is just a review article.

First try several commercial products until you find one that really works for those dark circles
only then attempt to replicate or improve the formula.

At least replace all youtube videos
with reading double-blind scientific studies to get to know what works and what doesn’t.
Pay attention to the methods used in the studies, as it they may only work in those specific conditons.

Please be aware that SA solubility varies depending on the oil used
i.e. much more soluble in castor oil than olive oil.

    For example read the study

    STUDIES ON OINTMENTS
    II. OINTMENTS CONTAINING SALICYLIC ACID

One part of salicylic acid dissolves in 13 parts of boiling water, in 444 parts of water at a temperature of 15 C., in 500 parts of water at 20 C., in 60 parts of glycerin, in 45 parts of olive oil and in 7 parts of castor oil.

    Just some quick brainstorming
1 If I’m not mistaken Selenium-disulfide can stain metal containers, not sure about Stainless Steel, so maybe you’d need glass containers
    2 Check your local laws
as some concentrations (like 1%) can still be sold as OTC but higher ones (like 2.5%) require prescriptions.
3 It’d be nice to have a Ketoconazole + Seleniun disulfide shampoo. Again check local laws as I believe Keto can be sold as OTC up to 2% concentration.
not sure if they can cross-react though, so you’d need to check this yourself.
4 Keep your formula simple. If possible, stick to a proven one.
You already have an active ingredient, so no need for unproven conditioners, essential oils or wild ideas that can hinder Selenium disulfide absorption, or cross-react with it.
Search for scientific studies about proven SD absorption, and just replicate the formulas used.

I don’t know anything about Malaysian regulations
but you can either rent a professionally calibrated hygrometer for a couple days to compare readings with your equipment
or you can take your hygrometers to their shop so they can compare readings and somehow certify them in writing, for a fee.

IMO Benzyl Alcohol is almost only used when
Parabens and Formaldehyde releasers are avoided to make label claims

You can even use Benzyl Alcohol, Benzoates and Sorbates together if your pH is low enough for the latter two.
Some commercial preservatives already include said blends.
