@tanelise there are many manufacturers. Here is an other https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHiwvwnx1tA
When I tried myself first time, I was like no way lol. The problem with these premixes is price, which can be justified with the simplicity of the technology involved to formulate your product.
I’d like to create myself something similar. Xanthan gum is very easy to work with

@Bill_Toge, good observation! Since there is lanolin in the formula, some water can be added.

Cold process is awesome. I’ve used it only with acrylates in composition with different emulsifiers. Great experience.

Agreed. I wanted to build one myself, but $95 is already cheap.

I don’t think those oils have to be 5%. I’d probably add like 2% of each, unless you have some research done.
Regarding glycerin, indeed it too think it is too much. I’d go for 5% and add some xanthan gum like 0.2-0.3%.
If the formula is already stable, there is no need to other emulsifiers, xanthan gum should do the job.

I usually use 0.3% xanthan gum dispersed in 3% glycerin, very pleased with the results. I might try the other method too.

From the formulatorsampleshop page, it works for O/W emulsions, so yes it works for creams.

@Belassi, that is very reasonable. I do start with 200g first attempts and than increase to 500g, 1-3kg, 30kg and so on

I have a homogenizing mixer but I’m not sure I can use dry material with the mixing blades.
What kind of mixer do you have?
Powder blenders are based on mixing powders by making them flow. If your powders do not have good flowability, mixing them is difficult. The best way to blend small quantities of powders with poor flowability is by using sieves.

Just curious, what wheel are you re-inventing? It is most likely someone else did it before you. 🙂

I was surprised when I first saw vanilla as the board used in the forum. I’d suggest Xenforo, best forum board script ATM and at a reasonable price.

I guess if you combine your perfume with menthol, lemon or other strong perfumes, it may increase the time.

100W motor should do fine with viscous semidolids.
It should be easily reparable too.

The amount is small, but still I don’t think that you can make a proper suspension. It will probably precipitate.

250L is not a small production line.
You have to do scale ups to achieve better results in 250L batch.
The manufacturer of that line should give you some basic operations so you can have an idea of how all variables work.
In any case, you have to do trials, you will not get the best formula at the first try.

@Chemist77, good point. I thought methyl salicylate was stable.

@Bill_Toge, I was thinking of adding something to stabilise the pH. Thank you for the suggestion. Regarding the preservatives, I have seen several similar products in the market and none of them had preservatives. I guess having a high % of methyl salicylate and menthol was enough to avoid preservatives.
