    @gld010

    How did you figure out that you are sensitive to silicones and not an other ingredient in the deodorant?

    @tanelise
    You’re welcome. Sometimes it is necessary or inevitable to take measurements and make adjustments when the temperature is still higher than room temperature (like in some cases where too low a pH during the time of cool down can cause precipitation, I speak from experience). I just keep in mind then that the pH will be slightly lower when it’s warmer. Final pH adjustment I always do at room temperature, as this will be the temperature the final product will be stored at.
    My (new) pH meter also measures temperature. It also comes with a probe which is designed for emulsions/higher viscosity and it’s very easy to clean. Probes that aren’t designed for emulsions can clog at the junctions.

    @Yoyomel
    Distilled water can be sligthly more acidic as it absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. It’s not a problem to use it.
    As em88 pointed out, it depends on the type of preservative if it can withstand elevated temperatures or not. Parabens indeed aren’t very heat sensitive, but some organic acids, e.g. potassium sorbate, should be added below 40C (≥60C causes it to sublime).

    I’ve seen the dilution method too, but doubt also if that gives an accurate reading.
    Tanelise’s tip is a good one I think. Keep in mind though that pH is temperature dependent and shows a more acidic reading at higher temperatures.
    Yes, use distilled/deionized water (the same water you use for your buffers, if you prepare those yourself).

    How about the colourless salt? (dipotassium glycyrrhizinate)

    @em88
    DIY suppliers here also don’t sell PVP. And the MOQ’s from BASF etc are simply too high.

    @Microformulation
    Thanks for the update.
    I agree. I’ve tried the Lexfeel Shine, D5, N5 and 350. I’m particularly fond of the D5. All things considered I do prefer silicones however.
    I get the feeling that the bias is only getting worse. I’ve heard people even complaining about the silicone replacements. Lexfeel 350 for example, (dipentaerythrityl hexa C5-9 acid esters). “It is unpronounceable and sounds very ‘chemical’, it can never be good.” :smirk:

    Agree with @MarkBroussard . I love the Dermofeel Sensolv (Isoamyl Laurate). Although I never have soaping problems, I love the sensorials of the Sensolv.

    Aloe Vera is 99% water

    Yes, you can test it for microbes.
    What is cm1000 and EGMS btw? I also don’t see water mentioned, what is the whole formula?
    If benzyl alcohol and phenoxyethanol are your only preservatives, I would definitely add an anti-fungal, like paraben(s). Also benzyl alcohol and phenoxyethanol cover more or less the same, maybe you can do with only one of these +anti-fungal/yeast.

    @David
    The LOI also names water/aqua/eau. The question is which one is the emulsifier or how can this be emulsified without one. (or it isn’t listed).

    So we have to guess what your exact problem is by just looking at the LOI of a totally different product?

    Unless you’re working on a patented formula, or having a patent pending, I really don’t understand what all the secrecy is about.

    You’re not using broad spectrum preservatives. Fungi maybe? They come in all colours.

    Just curious, what preservatives did you use?

    I’ve tried Lexfeel silicone alternatives (N5, D5 and 350).
    The D5 seems to be as volatile as cyclo D5, I was positively surprised about the results.

    Why rethink parabens as a preservative?

    Why IPA btw? I see nothing that needs solubilizing?

    Unfortunately the level is rather low (for topical use at least).

    You can’t expect people here to make a formula just for free based on your list of ingredients.

    This might be a very useful site for you. Lots of (beginner) formulations.
