Don’t get hung up on a title. If a job offers you what you are looking for (gain experience) it doesn’t matter what they call the position. Going from concept to samples out the door in a week should be no problem unless it is a super unique formula or you don’t have a chemical you need. Enjoy your experience.

Without a list of all your ingredients it’s all just a guess.

Well I am not sure but I would say if you may it before with no issues and now it’s soapy then must be the addition of polyquat 10. It seems to me you have too much in there. Typically I would use it at around 0.1% to 0.3% I also don’t see how you get a gel from what your wrote as the formula.Last thing, you’re adding oil to water with nothing that would allow them to mix together.

Many times pH is the first thing to try before adjusting viscosity with other things

How about DL-panthenol at 3% in a cream? Will that cause anything problems? I made one today that also had 0.1% Ultez 21, Ferulic acid and other things. After adding the oil to water I added some Lactic acid. Not sure at what point it happened but when I lifted the mixer up to check something at 150F there was a huge clump of white material around the mixer. It felt very creamy but obviously shouldn’t have happened.

You can also try Carbopol Aqua SF-1 or SF-2. They will allow for low pH
-
Can you use Caprylic.capric triglyceride in your lotion and cream? That will give you slip.

Thanks DrBob. My customer did agree to use 3% of the complex itself. This is the best resolution as it greatly reduces the safety concern.
-
In case anyone runs into the same thing I have found a product by Wacker called “Cavamax W-8 Retinol Complex”.
Some companies with a “complex” are actually using Retinol, retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate combination. Others may be using a Retinol 10S at 3% but that’s not really “active” amount.
Skinmedica has a product they call “Retinol Complex 1.0” IS that the percentage or merely a part of the name? Ahh, have to love marketing.
-
Now I come to find out the customer wants 3% “retinol or retinoid complex”. Not straight retinol. Now the fun begins trying to find out exactly what retinoid or retinol complex means.

Great, thank you Perry

@PerryCan you copy and paste what you found. I can’t see the article because I am not signed up with the.

Thanks DrBob, I appreciate your input

What is your total percent of water added?
As an experiment, try the same formula and process and try adjusting the pH with sodium hydroxide solution.

IF you want a truly commercial and large scale (depends on your definition) buy a simplex filling machine.
