  • What is this product you are making?  Is it a face wash, a serum that you leave on your skin….

If you significant;y increase PG and decrease water it will help.
Add 1% sodium citrate to water first and mix till dissolved.
Sal acid will go into PEG-400 if you can use that.

The other thing you can do is raise the pH up till the salicylic dissolves.  Not sure what pH it will end up being and not sure if this does anything to the salicylic but it will help dissolve it.

The only thing you can do that I know of is to ask the fragrance manufacturer to make a version that will not turn the product brown if they can.  They may be able to make a version that smells very similar but will stand up better.

To me these/this is not active ingredients.  This is solids.  Active ingredients has the connotation of referring to a drug product and it’s active ingredients.

If they want a quantification then send it to a lab and test for solids.

You don’t seem to have any actives in your formula from what you have listed.

In my opinion if you are not making a claim then you do not need to list them as actives.  We use sunscreens in some products that are not intended to be SPF products and therefore are not listed as actives.

Tell us why you object to carrageenan and then we may be able to find alternative.

I would think you would have arranged in advance how the formulator was getting pais for his work.  Didn’t he tell you his fees?

Congrats but I don’t understand how you can get a job as a chemist and seemingly not know anything about cosmetic chemistry.

    1)  I don’t know if you can’t for some reason but I find mineral oil to give a very nice feel.

    2)  Increase your glycerin to around 7%

    3)  Try something like caprylic/capric triglycerides

    4) A healthy slug of safflower oil or macadamia nit or hazel nut.  They are all “dry” feeling but will give you some sily feel.  I would start with about 3 to 6 percent.

I think you will mostly find we are good at the chemistry side, not so much marketing.  IF so this forum would have a different name.  Sorry I can’t help.

Why are you doing this?  Are you selling this?  What is your background?

If you have 10% glycolic acid the strongest you can have is 10%.  Can’t get get any stronger than what you start with.  IF you add 10% acid to a 5% finished product you will end up somewhere in between depending on how much you add.

ahhh, got it.  RawMaterialGirl is correct.  Make a solution (50%, 30%… up to you depending on the size you are trying to reduce.)  Depending on the size of your batch at the very end ofter all is done and cream is formed you can add drop by drop till you get the correct pH.  IF you are making a lot, then add by cc or grams of solution.

IF you are making large amount (20 gallons or more) you can try adding by grams of dry citric.

To be honest I am not sure what the CAPB I use is preserved with but I personally don’t see a problem with that.  We use DMDM Hydantoin as a preservative in some of our products.

As Bob said try running the machine slow.  Also, you nay need a larger circumference nozzle.  Personally I would never buy these machines from China or anyplace overseas.  You will have to contact the company for support to see why the fill may be changing.

The better question is why would you want to adjust you pH up from 0.5 to only 0.7?
Is this some type of AHA cream or a chemical peel in cream form?  In my opinion you pH is way to low to be used by end user.  You are opening yourself up to legal ramifications should someone misuse the product and get hurt.  Do you have product liability insurance?

I find nothing wrong with using Cocamidopropyl Betaine.  In every wash or shampoo we make and never a complaint.

pneumatic just tells us it runs by air and not electric.  What type of filler, piston?  Do you have a picture of the machine?

What else is in your product making it foam?  Need more info to help.
