Professional Chemist / FormulatorJanuary 13, 2015 at 7:43 am in reply to: “Dermatologically Tested”@ heraklit , do you have any reference on where it is stated in the EU regulation ? Only thing i can find is this “The claim “dermatologically tested” implies that the product was tested on humans under the
supervision of a dermatologist. Depending on the presentation of the claim, it may, refer to a
specific efficacy or tolerance of the product.”
Nothing on how it should be done or not even if it has to pass the test like Bobzchemist noted.

Professional Chemist / FormulatorJanuary 7, 2015 at 1:29 pm in reply to: O.K. to Dilute Liquid Germall Plus preservative? You can probably dilute it - but I would use propyleneglycol since it is in there already. You will have to count in some extra PG in the formula though.
And @MarkBroussardDiluting 4 times equals a 4 times more accurate scale as long as the accuracy is linear, so it is not a bad idea in theory. I use it frequently to weigh dyes. But on the other hand - 2 decimal places is minimum for developing cosmetics - otherwise you will end up with a lot of diluting or larger batches like Belassi said. -

Professional Chemist / FormulatorDecember 19, 2014 at 3:08 pm in reply to: Panthenol in pH 4 cleanser - any point?@Belassi I agree on that a body wash has to be formulated in a way that it leaves a good skin feeling, but I think what is meant here is if panthenol has a (deeper) moisturizing effect in a rinse-off product.(which I find hard to believe) -

Professional Chemist / FormulatorDecember 19, 2014 at 2:47 pm in reply to: Lauric acid in a topical? Good or bad idea for acneic skin@ Belassi No wonder FDA didn’t approve, if I understand it correctly the company even claimed that lauricidin could inactivate HIV!
However their homepage has changed substantially since the warning letter..Interesting ingredient but still a long way to go before the efficacy can be proved?… -
