I believe there was a woman who won a similar case, she got cancer after 20 years of use and won millions. Must be terrible, but I’d like to know the reseaech that lead to that conclussion.
I wonder if this will cause any kind of change on the control protocols.

You can use carbomers designed for low pH. The aqua or the smart lines from Lubrizol will work at that pH.

Of course, it’s to keep you as a client. Many will give you the option to buy the formula at an insane price.
You can also hire a formulator and develop the formula on your own, but of course they will tell you they have to redo that formula because something’s off and they will keep it anyway. Not all of course, use the search of the forum, there are a couple of topics regarding this with recommendations.

As an alternative you can use 40% solution. It is more expensive, but you gain time.
@manstra can you elaborate why?.

It takes few seconds at 70° (pasteurization is 72° for 15 secs) and for the kind of products you make you are over that temperature. For 20 minutes is to kill spores. IMO it’s worth the time if you are going to make a marketing campaign with the word overkill on it.

I don’t understand, are you using a citrate buffer or not?. It’s not on the LOI.
-
A problem? Yes, foam!. I have seen it in a few air fresheners. It was like a carnival. Honestly 9% seems like too much, what are you using?.
One solution would be a glycol as an antifoam agent, and it would probably help you with the low temps.

Only if I use filtered tap water.
If you want to prevent contamination you can use this

What are you going to make?.
You can boil it before using it.

I think you are confusing stearyl alcohol with sterates. If you neutralize stearic acid you get a hard soap. Stearyl alcohol is usually combined with ewax for viscosity.
-
What’s the pH?. Carbomers work at high pH unless you use specific ones. Post your formula.

@Belassi don’t throw it away, make car shampoo or something like that. Flushing is a really bad idea, you can clog the drain unless you predisperse it on hot water.

MemberMarch 21, 2018 at 10:47 pm in reply to: Can Preservative Cap-5 or Cap-2 also work as an emulsifierThis is a place to ask questions and get real answers. And that’s exactly what you got. What you need to understand is this is a forum with a cientific approach, and we stick to the cientific methods. Maybe you expected that someone would tell you “use X material at Y percentage”. We consider that irresponsible, and ultimately is for your own safety, either you understand why or not.
It’s not that you are asking basic questions, it’s that you are asking questions that don’t make sense. If you ask a baker “I bought flour, a spoon and a cow, how do I make a cake?” don’t get offended if the baker tells you to take cooking lessons first.
Here is a good place to start: Learn to formulate cosmetics

If you need something to blend you can find at home you can use that thing to make cream with a different blade.
I found that I had one at home the other day and used it to make soap, it surprised me, it has good speed and decent torque.

I don’t see it economically viable. Besides the cost of the machine the maintainance would be too expensive.

IMO they are pushing automatization and robotics on fields that shouldn’t be automated.

Keep in mind glucosides have a high pH, you should consider the order or addition of surfactants too. Have you done any trials without the carbopol?.
Air bubbles are the enemy, working with surfactants and carbopol is painful, expensive and takes longer. And if you are suspending stuff airation is near impossible without a vacuum mixer. It might work if what you are suspending is lighter than air and you don’t need much viscosity.
-
Just a thought, instead of changing your base formula try to solublise it with a glycol.
Might be silly, but they way I see it your goal is to incorporate SA into a formula, not building a system around the SA.

I’ve never used trehalose and glucam, are you sure they are compatible?. I mean, ionic compounds and sugars…
Perhaps an hydrotrope will help.

MemberMarch 3, 2018 at 11:37 pm in reply to: Truly 24 hour lip balm possible to formulate? Let’s invent one in this thread 🙂Of course there isn’t because it’s unrealistic. People speak, drink and eat during the day.
In fact it’s one of the things I hate most. I also have dry lips and if I don’t use some kind of moisturizer I bleed. I use nivea med, but it’s so waxy that I can’t drink from a glass. I end up cursing, taking it off and using any fast absortion cream.
Maybe it’s because im not used to it, but I bet women have the same problem.

I got confused too, I also thought Belassi was implying salt as solid residues.
Here are a couple of formulating guides, check the relation of surfactants, active matter and viscosity and you will understand why we are saying you came up short.
