Has anyone tried any of the Euxyl brand preservatives? Im using Euxyl k903 which has a combination of

    • Benzyl Alcohol            78.0 - 84.0%
    • Benzoic Acid              11.0 - 13.0%
    • Dehydroacetic Acid     6.5 -   7.5%

Trying to keep my products on the more natural side, but want to have a good broad-spectrum preservatice system. Ill be making a line of products from shampoo and conditioners to hair products like clays, pomades, grooming creams and hairsprays

    Hey Natzam44,

I used Candelilla Wax only to try to avoid the trace amounts of 1,4 dioxane that may be found in polysorbate 60, as some other forums/blogs have said it is a substitute. Would you perhaps have any recommendations on a polyorbate60 substitute? Ive read that red turkey castor oil could be an option but I’m not 100% sure. I’d also assume that the possible trace amounts of 1,4 dioxane would be so minimal to cause any sort of issues, but would prefer to avoid it if at all possible. Thank you so much for the info tho! If i cant find any suitable substitute I will probably go ahead and use the Emulsifying Wax NF.

    Tobias,

Thank you so much for such a detailed response! I will definitely try the cetearyl alcohol you mentioned with reducing the amount of beeswax.

Hey there! My name is Brett,

I’m a mens hairstylist in Vancouver Canada who recently found an interest in hair products. Im currently enrolled in the Practical Cosmetic Formulating program that’s offered here. Im working with the owner of my salon on creating a small line of haircare and styling products to be sold in the shop. My goal is to learn as much as I can in order to create safe and trustworthy products for our clients. I have read a few threads in the forum already which has been a great source of information, and I look forward to chatting with you all! thanks for having me!
