Why my emulsions is not stable.
These emulsifiers will work fine but you are not using sufficient quantity. The ratio of oils to emulsifier is too high. You could also use a stabiliser such as Xanthan gum. -

Also, D5 is limited to 0.2% in leave-on products. You’ll need an emulsification system and a stabiliser, and silicones are notoriously difficult. You could use a water-dispersible silicone to avoid the problem. It will probably work.

It’s soap. Using soap on a dog is just plain stupid.

If you want to try surfactants that are usually only available by the drum, you might be able to find a local factor who is willing to supply you ‘on the coat tails’ of a larger customer. I get one of my surfactants that way; it’s an Akypo product. I buy 5 gallons at a time, I guess that might be a bit much for someone wanting experimental quantities. BASF surfactants are usually available, as are Stepan. Try the Plantaren range, they have some very easy to use blends as well as quite a few different types of surfactant. Try Dehyton AB 30 instead of bog standard CAPB.

Just try and see. That is how we improve.

Always read the label.

I think you should communicate via message…

According to this report, you are either wasting your time or peddling fairy dust.
In the following review, we evaluated the current literature and evidence-based data on transdermal magnesium application and show that the propagation of transdermal magnesium is scientifically unsupported. So, basically, you needn’t worry about it. Just put in 0.1% of whatever magnesium salt you like and write, “With MAGNESIUM” on the label.

Softness? That would be Lamesoft PO65.

MemberJanuary 23, 2019 at 1:41 am in reply to: Should I dilute sulfonic acid before neutralizing it with Sodium hydroxide ?In late Feb last year someone noted: Here in Egypt most of us use the 2nd kind of ABS that 1 kg neutralize with NaOH 180 gram
So 100g of ABS would need 18g of NaOH.
May I ask how you are measuring pH? -

MemberJanuary 22, 2019 at 9:24 pm in reply to: Should I dilute sulfonic acid before neutralizing it with Sodium hydroxide ?1. Do the stoichiometry.
2. Add 90% of the calculated amount.
3. Check the pH.
4. Titrate to get the pH correct.
5. Record the figures and use that for future batches. -
why so?
- Do you see any commercial products made with that combination? No. Think there might be a good reason? It’s not going to perform well versus the usual surfactants. -
^^^ that. I don’t think your idea would be very effective as a dish cleaner.

It seems most shampoos include a small amount of fat, is there some reason why this is necessary or is this optional?
No.
It is more likely that you are sensitive to one ingredient - probably SLS or SLES - that’s found in 95% of shampoo. Eliminating the ‘other’ ingredients is not the problem. You should instead try a shampoo made from a radically different base. EG Use Plantaren LGC Sorb and sodium cocoamphoacetate. -

They probably reason that if it is anyhdrous, they don’t need a preservative. Not that I agree, you understand.

Aha. I am guessing that they have either bought that from China or synthesised it. I haven’t seen that particular salt on sale, the usual one is the potassium form. I synthesise that myself from the pure acid. I suspect that using TEA instead of KOH will produce the ammonium salt but I’d need to do some research to verify that.
Purpose? Well, first, it is a very strong sweetener so probably they are using it for that. Not a preservative. Does have skin conditioning effects. Quite a useful and appropriate ingredient. -

MemberJanuary 17, 2019 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Differing properties of the same plant oil between different sellers: is it normal? Some ‘organic’, ‘natural’, ‘cold pressed’ etc oils are not suitable really. For instance I have some mamey oil here. It is a relative of argan oil. The profile actually seems superior. However, it has such a high percentage of unsaponifiables that, kept in the refri, it solidifies, and it’s really too ‘rich’ to use in a skin cream.

Brand names can be problematic. I recall the case of a UK-made perfume, “Exotic Mist” that was refused import at the German border. This might seem unreasonable if you don’t know the meaning of ‘mist’ in colloquial German.
