It is an anhydrous product based entirely on lipids and the active ingredient is a salycilate.

You mean aspen bark extract? Sorry but it’s not a proper preservative in my opinion. Kind of thing you find on Etsy. Optiphen Plus is fine.

The Ambrette oil finally arrived. 1.8mL for $35, that’s roughly $21,000 a kilo. Madness. It doesn’t seem to have a very strong smell. The sample of Clary Sage smells similar to me.

It doesn’t exactly sound “similar” to the Sephora product, frankly. First, unless you list the formula, we can’t help you. Having checked the Sephora LOI it appears to me that it is not in proper order.

(Laughing). Glucamate has really nice sensorials. If you want even thicker or to use less, Glucamate VLT will do that.

  • I think it’s a really dangerous area to get involved with. I am aware that various types of human growth hormone are available in the Far East. Or you can do like the aged vocalist, C___ and replace all your blood every once in a while with nice fresh teenage blood. Imagine yourself saying to your health inspector from the government, “Oh yes we use human growth hormone here.”  :s

Thanks from me too, Luis, useful to know that pH 3.5 doesn’t cause problems, at least in the short term, and my intended product is “occasional use”.

We’re chemists and we follow norms and standards that have been laid down by government. One person, using faulty information, thinks parabens causes cancer - but governments the world over, disagree and find it a perfectly acceptable preservative. There are plenty of alternatives available but they all cost a lot more, it is up to the consumer if he or she is willing to pay; and things like grapefruit seed extract simply are inadequate. An improperly preserved product can do you real damage.
And what does a person’s ability to “actually pronounce” a chemical name have to do with its suitability as an ingredient? I take it that according to your rule, you wouldn’t like to use Orbignya Oleifera? (Babassu oil) or Oenothera Biennis (evening primrose oil)?
The personal care industry develops ingredients for a purpose, and the purpose is, to achieve something that’s desirable and not already available. If we didn’t have modern ingredients people would still be painting their faces with woad and washing their hair with diluted urine.

Carbopol 940 is a carbomer and will not work at those pH values.

What do you call a “harmful” chemical additive? Water is a harmful chemical if you drink too much.

Paint mixer. Interesting. I was buying some paint a week ago and when the person mixed the shade, I found myself observing that the rotating device had twelve cylinders and dispensed accurate amounts of thick liquid from each. So I thought, maybe one of those could make a good measurement system for batches of creams. And then the mix was put in the shaking machine and you can guess what my next thought was…

No, it’s an ammonium based blend, Plantaren APB. Amazing stuff.

It’s some kind of soluble oil. Like machine cutting oil.

It’s been over a month so far and the shipment hasn’t arrived. I have solved the problem though, with Mane’s Herbal fragrance. That plus the 0.2% Tea Tree produces a very popular effect. I decided to pearl it, and added 3% Quikpearl which has enhanced the foam markedly. I had to reduce the primary surfactant by 3% because the foam was passing insane.

Be careful there is a market before you invest in that. First, try selling some at your target price. See if they sell. In my market, they are a nonstarter.

Places that do granite kitchen tops etc should be able to let you have an offcut of polished granite, I should think. But I really don’t know if it is better than glass.

Why not use a polished granite slab, wouldn’t that be harder than glass? And less breakable?

I don’t think it is likely that salt will have any effect on thickening that formula.

Thanks for that. I have tried hot process but I don’t much like the texture and appearance compared with cold process. I admit cold process can be a real pain at times. Fortunately it is only a small part of our product range, it’s nice to have it on display as it’s colourful and smells good.
