How can they call this Bioderma Atoderm Shower Oil an ‘oil’ when there is no oil in it?

There certainly is a lot of magic smoke in that formula. I prefer to use a more advanced (but much more expensive) form of vitamin C.

Just a note, which is to say, we use degrees Celsius in chemistry. Unfortunately I can’t help with your problem since it’s an area outside my experience.

By its very definition a surfactant is not “oil soluble”.
    Maybe you mean SOLVENT.

These ingredients are difficult to find here. Except for the cetearyl of course. I have cetrimonium but behentrimonium is only obtainable from Unobtanium Ltd. And the Shercine S, that’s a Lubrizol product but I can’t find it anywhere.

Motor oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons and cannot be saponified into soap. Secondly, used oil has all sorts of metal contaminants etc.
If you’re interested in this kind of thing I suggest you take a look at building a biodiesel reactor; but first, tour the area and discover if the local fast food places will cooperate.

There are many ways each with their own negative side. A few:
Gums: take ages to wet, stringy feel.
PE Gel: hot process needed, viscosity very dependent on temperature
    Carbomers: not recommended frankly
    Nonionic: Glucamates, wonderful but expensive
Cocamide MEA: foam booster, effective thickener, but can’t really use sufficient %

Sounds like something designed for use by World War 1 soldiers.

The same. It depends where you want to be in 5 years time. I decided to become a product designer. Why? Because I wanted to be able to manufacture at OEM pricing rather than simply sell someone else’s ideas. And then you have to decide how to grow the company.

It’s a marketing issue. Or company development issue.

It will be a fragrance oil. Messing around with essential oils won’t help.

It is all in the patent, you have to read it and understand the chemistry.

Don’t stock more than you can utilize within a realistic period of time
Absolutely. I keep each batch in Excel with its date and lot number and any production notes. So, I can search on a particular product number, divide the total by the date range (how many months) and say to myself, “is it worth continuing to produce this product considering that we only produced (sold) xx units per month”.

Considering that makeup will be oily, why not use a high-HLB emulsifier such as PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate which should mix perfectly with your decyl glucoside, I believe.

@Chemist79 agreed, I use 0.2% sodium benzoate and 0.2% potassium sorbate at a pH of 5.0 to 5.5 and have never had any problems. Probably the EDTA and humectants improve the preservative action to some extent.

OK I am a long way from being able to explain this to you fully but from your comments about powders and liquids, I suggest that:
    - The colouring mechanism is related first to THIS and I am surprised you didn’t find that with Google, it took me about half a minute.
By the look of the colour of the other ingredients mixed with their respective solvents, they act as temporary colour dyes of some kind while the extract does its job.
Has this been tested for safety? Painting your head with L-Dopa, which is readily absorbed by the skin, well, you take that risk if you want to.

It is not just the effect on the hair. You must also consider the health of the scalp.

I think this is a wonderful thing to do. Certainly for me in Mexico, discovering the appropriate sources and limitations has been a learning experience.
