More folkloric references suggest salt and potassium alum works.
A method is outlined in the bottom of this thread: https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/home-made-lamb-tallow-soap.302838/

Hops CO2 extract is available to beermakers and has a lovely, almost fruity floral aroma.

Thanks Mark. I agree as a brand owner, a loyal customer base no matter what size is key.
We have a presentation for (essentially no strings attached) govt funding in a few weeks where we are being asked to present our end goal of launching a niche brand. I have a feeling the more moderate success we had originally envisioned will not be bold enough to excite them. They will want to hear about economic stimulation of our isolated community in a big way.

Two facial products I currently use nightly (one containing a significant amount of azelaic acid / the other with small amounts of hydroxypinacolone retinoate and retinol) have made unbelievable changes in the appearance of my skin. However it took almost 60 days of once daily use before I could definitively say there was a difference and another 120 days to confirm in my mind that the changes were lasting and not attributable to other factors.

Thanks Perry.
That seems consistent with this article (although they are saying practically no bottom to annual sales figures that will be considered, I haven’t been able to find an example that I would consider to be an exceptionally small indie company).
“Big cosmetics companies used to turn up their noses at any acquisition with less than $100 million in annual sales, says Vennette Ho, a managing director at Financo. Now there’s practically no bottom because revenue can climb fast if a line suddenly catches digital fire.”

This might be worth a try:

Lol… @MarkBroussard no arguments here.
And yet there are spas in the US employing estheticians to pick tourists off the streets by offering a free demonstration of this product and within 30 mins some of them will have parted with as much $$$ as I would pay for a small car.
Good luck @DavidW

@DavidW : I have no experience in formulating this type of product. But if you are looking for acceptable benchmarks, I have heard rave reviews about the instantaneous effect of this product from women who have experienced it first hand.
LOI: Aqua, Sodium Silicate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate, Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Hyaluronate, Persea Gratissima Oil, Tuber Melanosporum (Black Truffle) Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Iron Oxide, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Xanthan Gum, Dimethylaminoethanol Tartrate, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate

Is the shake powder meant to be added in situ by the consumer?
Could you compensate with the cooling effect provided by erythritol and/or xylitol as they dissolve in water?

Betaine in the water phase may also help. Although incorporation at the rate tested in the link below is impractical.

@johnb Thanks for that. Yes, this does add an extra step to the mix and some uncertainty on my part.
Dry Glucono-delta-lactone is all I could get my hands on. But I did know that it hydrolyzes to gluconic acid.
The product below is sold as a 50% gluconic acid solution in water where it states 5% GDL remains.
http://www.jungbunzlauer.com/en/products/gluconates/gluconic-acid.html
So I was assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that if I made a 55% solution of my GDL and waited 48 hrs, I could use it as the equivalent to the Jungbunzlauer product.

Thanks @Bill_Toge
On a similar note… below is the LOI for a wildly popular hydrating toner. Do you think the formulator included the succinic acid/disodium succinate combo as a pH buffer?
Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, PPG-10 Methyl Glucose Ether, Methyl Paraben, Disodium Succinate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Succinic Acid,Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate.

Lol…. well noted.
I should add, ‘At the concentration it needs to be used at, is it likely to make the consumer gag?’ to my list of questions.
I think I will give this a try. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks @Johnb
I’m in Canada. No list of approved preservatives to worry about. Just as long we don’t include anything on the “Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist” and we do our due diligence to ensure the product is safe, we’re in the clear.
Was thinking of combining this with vanillin and furaneol (both anti-microbial) with 1,2 hexanediol and pentylene glycol.
I guess the questions then become: how strong is the coverage, is it enough of a broad spectrum and at the inclusion rate that I would need to use, is it likely to cause irritation.
Sorry for hijacking your thread @belassi

@johnb - I’m interested to know more about the potential for adverse properties of biocidal ingredients.
I’ve been looking at asking for a sample of parahydroxycinnamic acid (inci: hydroxycinnamic acid, trade name: exsymol) to include as part of a non-traditional preservative system. It is marketed as a synthetic bactericide identical to that naturally present in aloe.
