I don’t know anyone in Alberta but if you’re willing to travel a little further I know some in the west coast (BC) and lots in Ontario and Quebec. But this also depends on what types of products and what quantity you’re considering. Send me a message if you want to discuss further.

Is this is a rinse off product? There’s quite a large amount of waxes and oils in there so I would blame this system for the instability more than the acids:

    steric acid - 3
    glyceryl stearate - 2.3
    cetyl alcohol - 7
    carnuba wax - 3.5
    avo oil - 3
    macadamia oil - 3.5
If you must use that amount of waxes and oils try using a stronger (MUCH stronger) emulsifier system, pre solubilize your oils (polysorbates?) or just reduce the amount of waxes and oils.

I’m not very clear on what you’re asking but when it comes to color matching, it’s all about consistency in lights, angles and it helps if you’re the only one that makes the batch all the time. In my company even if a batch is made by a group of people, when it comes to adding colorants and checking the colors, the same person that prepared the first batch is usually the one involved.

I don’t believes there’s much that you can do on a small scale level. It’s all trial and error to get the correct color your customer wants. Save a good sized sample of the approved colour because you will refer too it for all your subsequent batches.

I’m not sure what Sephora’s specs have to do with anything but they’re a great marketing gimmick without practical application in formulation.
  • I hate to jump in halfway with a tangent from the discussion but I may have a resolution.

Those that have paid this “so-called chemist”, how did you make the payment? If it was with a cheque or bank deposit, you can easily track that, if the offender is anywhere in North America or Europe you can try revoking the payment or at least find information on the address of this person. The banks will be quite supportive of these actions.
If the payment was through other portals, such as Paypal, make sure you go through their resolution center. They can also be helpful.

A quick update for anyone that might be interested. We didn’t have much luck finding a reliable manufacturer for an all natural mascara. I found a few labeling companies but these are not manufacturers/fillers. Interestingly, some even did less than 100 units with custom labels.

Fortunately, the client agreed to go with non-US manufacturers which sadly makes this selection easier.
  • In what way do you consider Cerave PM a balanced and well formulated moisturizer? Is your “theoretical stand point” based on the marketing claims of the product (ie. patented delivery system, forms a protective layer, restores skin barrier, etc) or clinical studies?

@otherhalf-  Clinical efficacy is not a concern of cosmetics. Please keep in mind that I’m talking about general cosmetics. We’re mostly application chemists who try to find formulation solutions that are generally effective but more so, pleasing to the general public, our clients and their marketing team.

@Zink- Consider coloured loofah powders. They are fairly inexpensive and I think suitable for your purpose.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by PL. But today’s your lucky day! Pretty much everyone in this forum can help you make gels. Take your pick.

Thanks Bob! Any referrals for those manufacturers? Google turns out nothing.
