@Perry44 this data shows in hard water, more SLS was attached to skin compared to soft water. Does it mean even those soluble molecules from interaction of SLS and calcium can stay on skin or hair and cause problems?

@ozgirl can you tell us what was the product, pH, packaging, packaging size and and preservatives on those products that got contaminated?
I use CHA with piroctone olamine, phenoxyethanol and EDTA as preservative.

Purchase LAE i powder form and dissolve it in glycerin at 20%. It will be easier to use this way.
Use it with phenoxyethanol.
It is very effective for acne in leave on product.

It depends. If nothing in your formula needs heat them it will be ok.

If i add NACL to hard water, then anionic polymer, would chloride interact with calcium and then anionic polymer expand fully or not?

Long time ago i was using it in shampoo at pH 5-7( don’t remember correctly) at 1% and it had no problem with SLES/CAPB at that ph. It was increasing the viscosity too.

My pH is <5 and i use 100ppm piroctone olamine, 500ppm CHA, 2000ppm EDTA and 9400ppm phenoxyethanol. How preservative were you using?
@PhilGeis can i ask why 100ppm piroctone olamine would be a waste as preservative?

@ketchito i also add phenoxyethanol the product is a bit hot because it takes to much time to dissolve in cold water or emulsion but when you said emulsion memory, will it not go to emulsifier phase rather than water phase if we add it between 50-60°c?
If it goes to emulsifier phase the will it not make it less effective preservative than it being in water phase?

If your emulsifiers need heat then you should heat the oil phase too.
It is only 5%. What is the benefit of not heating it?

It is cold and hot water soluble. Add 1% active surfactant in water phase. Some of them have high pH so adjust pH.<div>
You can add olivem in oil or water phase and see which one do you like most.

Reduce 1% Olivem and add 1% Caprylyl/Capryl Glucosides and see if the viscosity has dropped enough.

Sorry, my mistake. I wrote it the other way around. It is 71% water and 29% total solids. 12% glycerin, 4% emulsifier and only 0.6% benzyl alcohol was included as preservative in example formulas
