Why was iscaguard SAP chosen over euxyl in this moisturizing cream formulation?
I am a beginner formulator at my company and was looking through an old formulation from 6yrs ago. Below is the base formulation:
Water, EDTA, Chlorphenesin, Allantoin, Betaine, BG, Lysolecithin, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Pullulan, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate, Ceteareth 20 (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, C10-18 Triglycerides, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Squalane, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Caprylyl Methicone (and) PEG-12 Dimethicone/PPG-20 Crosspolymer and Cyclopentasiloxane.
The first formula was using Euxyl PE 9010, the 2nd formula uses Iscaguard SAP (Propandiol (and) Salix Alba). Is there a reason for the change to Iscaguard SAP other than for the function SAP provides? Also current me if I am wrong but SAP has discontinued manufacturing?

Assume the formula provided was not from ingredient label.
To the 1st question and with restraint - because the person making the change knows nothing of preservation.
SAP discontinued? If you meant manufacturing of the cartoon preservative Iscaguard SAP - it may be that the number of suckers in the industry was insufficient to make a profit.

As far as the change, I might theorize that the client insisted. It was marketed heavily in the DIY/EWG crowds a few years ago for some reason.
We had a similar issue where a client stubbornly insisted on the preservative based upon what they heard from a rep at Supplier’s Day. We suggested it wasn’t the best option but they insisted. It did not pass PET when we sent it off.
Sometimes the clients gum up the works.
