  Why Does This Burn My Eyes

  I made this beautiful cleansing balm but it burns THE CRAP out of my eyes. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

  30g total

  35.00% jojoba oil 10.5

  5% GLYCERIN 1.5

  5% IPM 1.5

  15% sodium methyl taurate 4.5

  15% glyceryl caprylate caprate 4.5

  7% trihydroxystearin 2.1

  3% jojoba wax 0.9

  10.00% lauryl laurate 3

  0.60% polyglyceryl oleate 0.18

  0.50% preservative 0.15

  0.50% fragrance 0.15

  2% wheat protein 0.6

  1% oil sol botanical 0.42

  It could be caused by the sodium methyl taurate or trihydroxystearin

  PERRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! I was thinking it might be the trihydroxystearin as it’s a new ingredient I’m working with. The SMT is supposed to be somewhat gentle. I tried researching the trihydroxystearin but there isn’t anything out there about it’s effects on mucous membranes. Thanks for the reply. So good to hear from you. Still waiting for you to start a podcast for us formulators!!!
