Why does my anhydrous product have two layers.
I need help to stabilize this gel like product.At higher temperature there is a liquid layer and a solid layer. Also at RT you can see a light liquid layer on top. The formula consists of:
Non-Ionic Fatty esters, Cationic conditioning agent,oils,glycerin, silicone, nonionic polyalkyline glycol, and no water.
Any suggestions on what to do to stabilize it at higher temperatures. THe product initally is thick and viscous and when at higher temperature( 45C) it forms two layers(liquid layer and thick viscous layer). When it cools back down it has same texture as when it was placed in.

Glycerin and the rest of the mess are not readily soluble in each other, although the nonionic polyalkyline glycol may be a coupler, may be an emulsifier - or maybe not. The silicone is probably your culprit - it’s not soluble in any of the other ingredients. Try taking it out.It looks like you’re mostly succeeding at making an anhydrous emulsion. Congratulations - they are rare.For better results, I’ve got to have more detail in the formula than that - at least INCI names

Phenyl trimethicone is soluble in Mineral Oil, but neither is soluble in glycerin:
How much energy/shear are you putting into this system when you make it? -
@Cosmo Have u tried to feel that layer whether its oily or made up of kicked out glycerin???

THe layer feels oily.
Currently I am making the product on the bench. Initially its liquid. Doesn’t solidify until 35 degrees and below. THe product mixes all the way to 25 and not much shear goes into it.

@cosmo without having complete knowledge of the formula what Bobzchemist has suggested is the best possible solution, try eliminating that silicone. Since I still feel that something is missing from the info u hv given above u shud eliminate those, one at a time which u think can pose incompatibility problems in the recipe and with major ingredient of your formula.

So, i made the formula pulling out each raw in question. At RT they all are stable so far, but again its only been a day so too soon to judge. Lets see how they do on stability. Also, is there nothing to be added to the formula to help emulsify whatever is kicking out?

@cosmo Can try EB 21 & GP 1 from Ajinomoto, you might end up with something better. These are based on amino acids, give wonderful gelling to oils and can be used to modify the viscosities too. Just check with Ajino if they would work when there is glycerol in the formula.
