It seems like the new thing from big players like P&G and Unilever is “whole body deodorant”, or at least I have been seeing them take over the deodorant aisle with these products from brands like Dove, Secret, Native, and Old Spice.

Is this just another marketing ploy or is there a reason you shouldn’t use regular deodorant from your chest to your feet?

Ingredients from the Native version for reference: Alcohol Denat., Dipropylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Water, Fragrance, Nitrogen

I remember AXE advertisement in my country where a guy was spraying it all over the body in shower and then girls were literally sticking to him. So yes, I think it is just a marketing.

There might be some ingredients exposure limits (like it is allowed only under pits, but the whole body is too big surface and exposure) but I doubt it

I remember an advertisement from Axe like this, too! I imagine these whole body versions just have a lighter fragrance, if anything.

Having made several, I will say that they are not tasking from a Formulation standpoint. It is mainly marketing. We saw several companies emerge into the market in the past few years with entertaining names and marketing campaigns. I think the area of use is unusual and to some entertaining and that is where the marketing thrives.

Interesting. I feel like people have used regular spray deodorant all over for a long time, especially teenage boys, which is where the meme about Axe comes from. But if the marketing works, it works!

As someone that has spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME in the deo space…. I would conclude from that INCI…that they mainly are trying to broaden their marketing platform and get a leg up on the competition. As someone that has looked at various odors, from feet, to ‘Old people’ smell, to BO….the actives are somewhat different between them. Hence, I would say the product illustrated is simply safe in most regions, but certainly not broad spectrum, like what I worked on.

I wanted to be able to get diabetic foot odor, old people smell, and BO….in one product. Granted my INCI might be a bit longer. 😂

I was hoping you would respond! I have never attempted to make a deodorant myself, but I have seen several discussions on the topic by you, and I find them interesting to read.

I’m with graillotion. Suggest these are a marketing response to Lume et al They’re nothing special in terms of efficacy - just spray perfume deposition.
