Hi everyone, just wanted to see which website you guys like the most for finding raw material and formula information. It seems everyone loves UL Prospector, and that it serves as the first step.

But then there is Knowde (of which I hear mixed feelings), and Special Chem.

Which is your favorite and why? And do you only use 1 of these or all of them?

Follow up question here, what do you NOT like about UL Prospector, Knowde, etc. that you think could be improved?

I use them all but ULProspector is first mostly because they have been around the longest & have a good number of suppliers listed. Specialchem has been around a long time too but they always seem less organized. The search function on special hem is just not very good. Knowde has the best search function. But they don’t seem to have the extensive catalog of ULProspector.

Honestly, I use them all until I find what I need.

We primarily use UL Prospector and have purchased a subscription with Regulator access. I have also found UL Prospector has the best sampling option.

Knowde has a beautiful interface and has products not on UL Prospector in some cases, BUT in our experience, they are horrible with sample requests.

SpecChem is extensive but clunky. Also, most of their webinars require payment. We use UL Prospector for educational materials (webinars, knowledgebase articles) for training.

There is another platform we use infrequently (Novi https://www.noviconnect.com/). It is weak for Product Development, but great for material searches and would be best suited for a Procurement person.

I’ll agree with @Microformulation that noviconnect has come a long way from their starter point. I can say the same for Knowde; I use it more often now and it conveys a lot of intel without having to go into supplier websites and other avenues. Covalo is quite good if you are in the E.U. or elsewhere but North America. SpecialChem is simply annoying with all those pop-ups even though it draws from the most sources. The winner: UL Prospector - for the reasons Perry and Mark state. (That is until the A.I. bots come along and order me to their Formulator Re-education Camp.)
