  • Which co-emulsifier is better to use with Montanov 68 emulsifier?

    Dear colleagues,
Who has experience with Montanov 68 emulsifier? There is no definite user specification and recommendation on manufacturer’s site. What is the the recommended PH value for stability, which co-emulsifier is suitable to use for HBL adjustment? Is the HLB adjustment mandatory if I am going to use 5% as self-emulsifier?   The only data I found is in lotioncrafter’s site.
    Thanks.

@zwapp : Thanks a lot for your response. In the description it is written that the Montanov 68 is a HLB based emulsifier and its HLB=10. According to my calculations the HLB of my oil part is 8. Don’t I need to use co-emulsifier to adjust the HLB of the emulsifier to 8? If yes, which w/o emulsifier is suitable to use with M68?

@zwapp:  You are right! I found SEPPIC’s  specification for Montanov 68 emulsion. Nothing is mentioned about HLB system there.  It is interesting, that in lotioncrafter’s site it is described as HLB system working emulsifier. However in the SEPPIC’s  recommendations there are lot of other thickening and stabilizing agents provided.

Septic does not use HLB because it is not neccasary.Note formulae have  polymer SIMUGEL which negates need for HLB as most all polymers do i.e. Carbopols etc:however some still use HLB in combination.Personally we have found it unnessasy

The net/net is if you use SIMUGEL in combination with Montanov 68 you should be okay with stability of emulsion.
