Hi everyone! I’m Nikki, from Canada. I’m mostly here to learn about formulating my own products to help me cope with psoriasis. Everything I try to buy from the store bothers my skin a lot.
Luckily I was top of my high school chemistry class and am the reason my high school added chemistry to the curriculum.
I’ve been formulating my own shampoo and conditioner for 6 months.
I am mostly interested in multifunctional products. My shampoo is a body wash and my conditioner is a body lotion. It would be nice to turn my hobby into a business since I always have issues finding products that are truly for people with hypersensitivity issues. In the land beyond sensitive skin.Thank you for creating this forum, it is now part of my resource collection! -

I am Helen and I live in Canada. I have a very specific skin sensitivity and the care products that seemed to be working for me were always on the expensive side so one day I decided that I would try to formulate and make them myself. My background is in Biomedical Engineering but my chemistry knowledge is very dusted as I have migrated to technical sciences over time and of course I had no formulating experience at all. I was glad to be able to post a few questions on this forum three years ago and with the kind advice I got I was sent on a path that has developed to a passion since then. I have learned so much and I keep learning from all the wonderful people who unselfishly share their wealth of knowledge and experience. Thank you all and thank you Perry for creating and running this site !

I transitioned from being a law enforcement officer to a formulator. I don’t care to work for any company. I really enjoy formulating and would love to have the support of like minded people. Hello everyone! I’m Z and I’m an M.A. student in Germany. Although I study nothing closely related to science, let alone cosmetic chemistry, I got interested in formulations after following Dr. Shereene Idriss, Dr. Dray, and LabMuffin. The more I learned about how skincare products work, the more apparent it became to me how much expertise formulating required, unlike even the relatively complex DIY formulations. Not having the necessary background and equipment, I will be postponing turning what I learn into a hobby to much later, although I think it will be a very expensive one. I do not have big skin-related concerns, so creating something would be purely out of interest and only for myself. Right now, as a consumer and not a formulator, much of what I learn here helps me navigate the clean beauty dominated industry to get something decent. I wish the marketing teams of products already helped instead of fear mongering. The good thing is that I think I will end up not wasting money on cosmetic ingredients, if things get greenwashed to the point that I end up only with botanicals by the time I feel the courage to create lol. Since I am by no means an expert, I believe I will rarely be able to help unfortunately. But thank you all, because you are also helping consumers against beauty claims with your expertise and I appreciate that.

I have made a touchless car wash solution with the following formula
The cleaning is satisfying but there are some troubles
1. After a while ( 2 to 4 days ) you can see some precipitations , so the product must be shaken before use and the look is not good
2. Also as the consumers claim the durability is low and the cleaning efficiency starts to gradually decrease overtime
I was hoping someone could help
Formula ( W/W percentage)
SLES 5
LABSA ( sulfonic acid) 2
Sodium hexametaphosphate 4
STPP. 2
NaOH. 5
Butylene glycol. 4
Methylene phosphonate 2
Water. 76.( Color and fragrance)
At the end the product is diluted with 1:3 water
